Hi folks, ill keep this short and sweet, just want your views, and comments or what you would do.

My company is based in essex, however earlier on in yr we set up in Belfast and sent over a uk van.

Mid july the MOT ran out, end of july TAX ran out, so we got MOT done no problems.

On going to tax it we were told no, unable to as it had uk plate on it, needed to register it as an import at a cost of aprox £500 pounds, i said we were not sure how long van was going to be out there so didnt want too, told tough. Bearing in mind Belfast is part of the uk

So i brought van home on the 2nd August, has been parked up in yd, not moved. Had a letter last week fining me £40 for not taxing it or putting it on Sorn.

I wrote back telling them the story, plus i put it on Sorn that day, said sorry id forgot i needed to Sorn it, but have done so now.

Today received a letter saying tough, fine is now £80.

I know i know im at fault for not sorning it sooner, am i being daft even thinking i can argue the toss with this one.

Await your wisdom and comments

They are a bunch of fecking retards

My mustang had been registered to someone else ... their mistake.... the wanted me to put the mustang on the drive for 8 weeks while they investigated the matter. As they would not tax the car while they investigated the problem.

Took the s the whole 8 weeks to realise that THEY had made the fking mistake. I told them while they were investigating I would inform the police just incase the car with the same reg was involved in any crimes. Cockgoblin at DVLA got all stroppy with me for doing that saying it was none of the police's business, ended up telling her to piss off as I had my own concerns.

Took the feckless asshats 8 weeks to realise that they had put the wrong figure into their own fecking computer ...... suppose thats what you get for employing feckless wkers...

Game Over Man... Game Over!!

Cheque book out son. Harsh but fair wink
I agree 100% that im at fault for not taxing/sorn it, you would just think that they would think " hold on, heres a small company, trying to make a living and expand, made a genuine mistake, then lets give him a bit of slack"

I think they just had the hump as i wouldnt pay all that money to put Northern irish plates on it.

Oh well, ill get me cheque book out then.

rofl

Why would they think that?

More likely to think "here is a small company that is going to go bump through fines 'cause they don't know the rules of taxing a van"

I had an issue and its a bit "computer says no" tbh

I had a fine through for £80 after buying a car that was sorn'd, now i had it months with no problems, and had a valid SORN in the prev owners name that would have lasted months after they fined me but still they didnt care, they also stated that somehow the car was SORN'd twice with an overlap, sounds like a blatant error but they fined me anyway, let me off £40 of it though as i had persuaded them i didnt use the car so no back tax but it took the pee really.

If you're a regular scamming motherfker who rapes and pilages the fine hard working, tax paying, moralistic peoples of this great country and sponges, lies and defrauds every thing that everyone else stands for... then fk you!!

biggrin
Thats better, hehehehehe, i like to think im a good un, have 11 vans and 13 staff, always pay my taxes and tax/mot the vehicles, hence reason for my disgust. I just sometimes think "is it really worth it, id be better of just laying them all off and sit at home watching tv" Guess im just having a bad day like you pal.

My point exactly, just another way of getting more money out of people if you ask me.

I had the reverse problem a few years back when I moved back over here with a NI reg car. MoT and Tax ran out. MoTd it ok but couldn't tax it because it was a "forgein car". Having been born and bred in NI, and lived through most of the troubles, I was less than impressed by their stupidity.
It's just another way to rip off more money from people!!
