Great film, but widespread speculation would say it's not a Ferrari. I've heard a lot of people say it's a Mini. Anyone know what it really is...?

Mercedes S Class (or whatever it was called back then) with air suspension. Stabalised the car enough to allow the gyro mount for the camera to function properly.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I wish it was a Ferrari but I just can't see how it can be when you look at how it drives on the slippery cobbles...

I have a friend who loves France and the Rendezvous video (I bought him a dvd of it) and started to tell him there was some question of the authenticity. He didn't want to hear it so I just kept my mouth shut.

I know a few people like that. I was the same until I realised it was general knowledge about authenticity....

I have a freind too who unless you bow down and swear it's a Muira will cry buckets, strange film this one for the old reactions.

I have to take ours to the Ring to see if it could still do that speed when I can drive again and before Dad sell it.

If you film it, I will stick models of the Eifel Tower and stuff next to the edge of the track

The "fake" car (450 SEL 6.9) used is still very cool though.

The camera is very close to the ground and well-stabilised. It's quite a professional set up considering the size of the cameras in those days.

The soundtrack is obviously dubbed on. At one point the car appears to be high revving in 4th gear when it appears to only be doing around 40mph.

I love this film, but over time I've started to notice little things that make it a bit less impressive. Shame really.

It is incredibly-bleeding-obvious that the movement and the noise are not related in any way.

I really hate it when film makers do this, to be honest, I just sat there thinking "what is this toss" when I first saw it.

That's the reason it was made, he had a new camera mount and wanted to test it.
