Have been a couple of times in the last year - lots of nice cars and bikes, but a tad unreal compared to the good-old-days.

There's a list of what's on.

If it's a car night there don't tend to be many bikes around

It's a car night, but definitely looking forward to it.

Looked at their website, didn't realise how much stuff they have going on there. Quite fancy a bike night too.

When I was arranging plans with mates earlier, I actually said (and still can't believe I did) 'Do they do food there?' Doh!! getmecoat

The Ace Cafe is a grub tub at the back of Sleep_Envy's garden.

From experience, any car night on a Friday tends to be rather overrun by bikes - not intentionally sidelined you understand, just a victim of sheer numbers of two wheelers.

Get a burger and a pint and wander around the carpark. Can get a bit hectic on the road outside later on but I'll leave you to discover that for yourself wink - just watch out when you pull out onto the road.

its ok, the grubs ok and theres generally some nice metal around.

True story, I took my fiance (now wife) there on my ducati, had a cuppa and a burger, nothing much going on so decide to leave.

Pull away with fiance on the back, decided to give it some beans at the lights and did the largest wheelie of my life- all I could see was my tank, straight across a 4 way junction!!. Changed into second (front wheel in the air) and decide the wheelies got to end now, misjudged the amount of throttle roll off, slammed front wheel into the floor slapped my nuts on the tank (the mrs slid forward - shes not heavy but i wasnt anticipating her sliding nor the wheelie so couldnt brace in time). My mrs then shouts in my ear "again again!" - i couldnt even talk i was in so much pain let alone endanger my crown jewels like that again.....

happy days biggrin

For some strange reason , whatever night you go on theres some bloke in an Escort MK2 out on the road with a line lock on his front brakes who just loves peeling out and making clouds of smoke , I'm beginning to think its part of Marks (Wilsmore) entertainment package.

Oh the irony.

The Ace is and always was a bikers meeting place - since the 50's. Unfortunately Mark Wilsmore and partner in crime George have seized (admirably well) any opportunity and have managed it so that it appeals to cars as well as bikes. Bigger audience, more punters, more sales for them.

Random info:

  • A lot of the old school bikers don't go there at its gone all comercial - like Rave did in the 90's
  • There was a LOT of trouble last year with Fast Ford night who attacked a well known biker after he battered one of their drivers for nearly killing a load of bystanders with stupid dangerous driving manouvre rolleyes
  • They sell ACE sausages to take away - quite nice, although how they managed to invent the selling of bloody sausages as a 'cult item' beggars belief but they did! hehe
  • 99.9% of the girls are Eastern European - they look good and they are cheap to employ and friendly. There are a few English girls, Kim is friendly wavey Hi Kimbo.
  • I personally met Clarkson there about three years ago and actualy bothered to speak to him when it appeared that most ignored him.
  • Big Dave who used to work there as a steward sadly died of cancer a year ago deservs a mention and is missed by all frown
If car people want to go they will be welcomed as long as they don't act like BarryBoys, which of course Pistoneheaders normally do not, but please bear in mind that places like the Ace are few and far between and that it was originally a haven for bikers and not car drivers although all are welcome.

It is a bit like that. There's something not quite convincing about it - if you turned round and saw a load of cameras and lights and people with clapper boards and stuff it wouldn't really feel surprising.

But there is usually a significant amount of interesting machinery there and it's a lot better than a pub when you're not drinking.
