The people who had been buying Bentleys on credit can no longer get credit or afford to service cars they have, so the dealership ran out of cashflow and closed?

Another victim of the downturn. Low sales. Sure there was a brief article on the BBC Devon news site yesterday.

Was always some lovely motors on the forecourt there - not just Bentleys/Rolls.

yes, people stopped buying cars from them, they made no money to pay the bills, and the adminstrators wound them up.

very sad for all concerned, and has been mentioned in general gassing..on 'are pendragon going pop' (or similar)

Apparently Noel Edmonds asked 'Dealer or No Dealer' and the banker replied 'No Dealer'. I'll get my coat.

A Bentley dealership, in Exeter??? They must have been insane, even without the credit crunch, how long could that possibly have lasted?

It was on the Marsh Barton trading estate on the site of the former Alfa dealer who closed in the last recession.
Marsh Barton is supposed to have a branch of every dealership in the UK. (except Bentley ! )

You'd be surprised, afaik it's been there for years along with the Ferrari and Maserati dealership around the corner.

Within a few miles of Exeter you have the ex chairman of Shell Petroleum, Nigel Mansell (I think he still live up on Woodbury) and a whole host of 'celebs' like French And Saunders, Edmonds etc live up on the edge of Dartmoor.

There's more money in the area than you may think, it's not all farmer types (who probably have more money than most other people despite constantly pleading poverty).

Marsh Barton is a petrolheads heaven. Within viewing distance you have Westerly BMW, Porsche Exeter, Aston Martin, Mercedes Benz of Exeter, Greypaul Ferrari and, well not any more, Bentley Westcountry.

Was also the site of Brooklands TVR (Main Dealers) only 6/7 years ago.
