A 'Big Car Test' for the Mummys?
Discussion
This isn't meant to be sexist - it just is.
Not a School Run goes by when me and my son don't narrowly escape being wiped out either on foot or in our car by a wet-haired, sunglass wearing, phone texting Hag in a Range Rover going at 60mph with as much spacial awareness as Nelly the Elephant on Ecstasy.
If they want to drive a big car, make them take a Big Car Test. No wonder there are so many accidents outside schools.
My wife drives a Grand Cherokee Jeep and she's just as useless.

I used to live just down the road from a Junior school and it was hilarious watching all the bad driving as people came to pick up their kids. Sometimes the road would be entirely blocked as two mum's would face each other off in their tanks, waiting for the other to reverse to let them pass.
I was nearly involved in quite a nasty crash when someone, in a Land Cruiser I think, came flying round a corner at about 50 on my side of the road and I only missed them by driving onto the grass verge as they steamed by without so much as an apology.

When I leave Phobos (Mars Jr - geddit?) off at school, I usually crawl away, only achieving 30mph after some distance. The kids seem normal around there but their parents have no road sense - both kids AND parents appear behind parked cars looking the wrong way and just cross the road without looking at me... and then the parents glower at me because I happen to be (now) stopped next to them, waiting for their suicidal mission to complete.
And then the line of idiots queueing behind me as I drive away at 30mph is funny. I've had them mouthing off at me but I don't care. I drive very fast when on an appopropriate road but I do totally agree with very slow limits near to some housing and all schools. It's my kid that's at that school too so they can bloody well wait and have some consideration.
Strangely enough though, it's the mothers in the tiny cars that have the most spacial awareness issues. Those in the Rangeys are fine, and are often the most considerate and aware of their speed.

There is a "train" of kids go thru Boston Spa on their way to Throp Arch. The Awareness of the Adults supervising this "crocodile" leaves a lot to be desired. The other morning they decided it would be a good idea to cross across a T-Junction when crossing further down the road would be a lot safer.

And you of course are the best driver in the world by far....Not a School Run goes by when me and my son don't narrowly escape being wiped out either on foot or in our car by a wet-haired, sunglass wearing, phone texting Hag in a Range Rover going at 60mph with as much spacial awareness as Nelly the Elephant on Ecstasy.

The roads around V6jr's school are quite narrow (only room for one car to pass when both sides are parked up) and full of blind 90° bends.
As a result, the school and local residents have a voluntary arrangement whereby an unofficial one way system is used around the local roads at each end of the school day.
The roads really are such that there is absolutely no reason to drive down them unless you're a resident or doing the school run.
Still, every day at least one fool goes against the flow and causes complete gridlock. I'm not entirely sure what goes through some people's minds but it sure isn't logic.

I had to reverse 400 yards up a road outside a Hampstead school once. I was 30 yards from the end of the road and came across three RR/X5/ML/XC90s coming the other way. When I pointed out that they just needed to reverse a few yards and pull to the side the first one refused and told me I should know that "we operate a one way system in the mornings here". I think I probably saved a few insurance companioes some money by doing the long revers rather than having three moos try to manoeuvre their behemoths.
