Best car to be driven in

Hi chaps,

A chance that I may be without a certain licence soon. On the basis that I will need to be driven around, I'd appreciate any assistance with what i should be buying.

Currently have a Rangie, but find that is quite noisy as a passenger.

Als, thinking maybe sometimes be good to sit in the back, not to be an ahole but relax and read the papers etc.

So, sensible looking comfortable cruiser that has ample room for me.

oh, I cant afford a Maybach, and dont want anything too flash.

Try a Phaeton with a massive engine from one of teh auction threas recently?

I believe that they are huge and very comfortable considering most haven't a clue what they are; a real 'Q car' for the driven?

Not been in one but my mates grandad has one and speaks very highly of it. Think he's got the 2.2 oil burner. The V6's are probably a better bet, especially if you're used to landy fuel bills already!

If you're going to be driven, I still maintain there's nothing that beats the effortless style of turning up in a Mercedes 600 Grosser. A dark metallic or black one looks wonderfully sinister (think Jack Nicholson as the Devil in the Witches of Eastwick).

A decent SWB one (which is perfectly spacious enough!) starts around GBP30k.

Depends on where your intent on sitting. Front or back.

Being a passenger in the front would piss me off. I'd be so close to the action that I'd really suffer for not being able to drive.

But if you're in the back, you'll want something LWB with plenty of leg room, and possibly reclining seats. I believe the S600 LWB would be entirely suitable there.

730ld - seriously, it's got more than enough power and loads of room everywhere / comfortable!

PS - they're cheap second hand too.

Another vote for these, don't think the V6 is much faster than the 2.7 HDi, but the petrol version is cheaper to buy.

Budget will be £20k ish

petrol or diesel doesnt really matter. i don't do massive mileage, and the price differential between the two negates the mpg difference.

Like the look of a Phaeton, but not sure if there is nough room in the back for a stretch.

I've never been driven about in my 740iL but I reckon it would be pretty comfy. Especially considering the price at which they can be obtained for at present.
