These guys want 1700 quid for this car, I paid 275 for it(almost identical car) a few days back. Its actually quite good, but I feel for the poor sod who forks out that sort of money for an xsara.

They've got to prep it, valet it, fix any obvious issues with it, probably stick it through an MOT and then put a 3 month warranty on it once they've sold it. They will probably take a proper stter in p/ex for it and the buyer will expect top book for the p/ex and a discount on what they are buying. Profit is not a dirty word, you know!

wow. The people I bought the same car off for did the same except the warranty(preped it, I got 9 months MOT with mine AND it had only done 1000miles since the last MOT in July)). Guess thats worth 1500quid extra?

If this is the case, ill be making 1000quid minimum on my stbox 275 quid car.

ffs understand business then that there is no cheek in pricing something, you narrow the market of potential buyers who are prepared to pay that price but that is the dealer's issue.

No, simply pointing out that a dealer can charge whatever the hell he wants for a car and unless you're buying it it really doesn't matter.

Well it is a totally stupid price and it won't sell to anyone even half sensible. I guess thats what annoys me, the traders who take money from idiots (which is worse I don't know )


Cars have lost so much money now you'd really be daft to not buy a car for £2000 and get something loads newer, more modern, economical, etc etc...

Thanks. Thats all I was getting at. The fact that I got this same car, probably lower milage with a much longer MOT for 1300 is unreal. Yes they have to make money, yes they will take a part ex, yes this is business. But I just feel for the poor sods who dont know that much and just accept these cars, probably with terrible finance deals.

I knew for a couple of weeks what it was like to be without a car between insurance payouts and buying this stbox. Not nice.

I have an email from the dealer saying he would take 400 quid for the car too!

Even a year ago when things car related were looking ok, and it was a year newer, it would still be a bit of a big ask at that price.

One only needs to look around anyway, so it won't sell. I wouldn't let it bother you, the classifieds always have a few random dreamers.

It's a 1.4 (lowish tax) it's a W - quite new still (only 8 years)

It's a dealer with some warranty and protection.

Without looking at any price guides or looking on autotrader, I actually thought : If they'd haggle, that should sell.

I think the OP sold it too cheap. Way too cheap.
