Can i weld my mirrors in place?

For the second time, someone has walked passed my house and kicked my wing mirror off the car. They did my neighbours and a guests car as well..

I would love to rig them up so they are impossible to bend backwards (actually forwards) and will only result in a damaged foot for anyone who tries to kick it off again. Actually i would love to rig a spike in there so they impale themselves on my mirror while waiting for me to come and see what the noise is...

I can't see a problem with it as the mirrors would still fold up if i hit someone while going forwards etc..

A few years ago some fkwit hit my car on the drivers side knocking the mirror off so I picked it up and used araldite to stick it back on...

Then I was down in Cornwall surfing with a mate and driving back from the beach some jumped up 12 y.o in an M3 (strangely it was near Rock ) decided to barge his way through the narrow gap and his wing mirror hit mine. Cue one smashed M3 mirror unit sitting on the floor and my friend and I pissing ourselves with laughter as he stopped to pick it up.

I am currently waiting for glue to dry just to hold the mirror in place while i go and look for something more permanent.

I'm sure i will now be breaking the law by having to glue my mirror back on, and i bet i get done for it at some point.

I'm fairly sure you will be fine - As long as you have two mirrors (either rear view or wing mirrors) I think its fine that they are fixed.

I could be wrong - but I'm just basing that on what I understood of Kitcar SVA guidelines from a few years back...

...I'm sure someone will be able to correct me on that if its wrong.

Absolute tts that do this. Has happened to me several times particularly when I lived in studenty areas. The first time it happened was on a polo with cable mirror adjustment, it ended up being cheaper to replace the whole door than trying to retension a set of cables. Electric mirrors aresn't so bad as they tend to just plug in so a trip to the scrapyard normally suffices. But what kind of cock does this in the first place?

Yes but the law also says you should not damage other peoples property, we really need both laws to be enforced :P

Oh yes - sorry I stand corrected... I meant the lens can be fixed - but forgot, it does have to collapse / fold for when you are collecting pedestrians on the pavement.

if you weld them up you'll just end up damaging whatever its welded too - Bad idea in my opinion

SVA is not as thorough or strict as the 'Full' type approval, thus your 'Stangs get a pass.

They are going to end up glued on now, so i imagine i will have that problem anyway

I applied the first lot of glue over an hour ago and it is still wet because of it is cold outside. I am just waiting for someone to come along and rip off the duct tape that is holding it all in place..

My wing mirror was knocked off (car park) and I had to get a whole new item.

I was amazed at the size of bolt that holds the entire thing on (the wing mirror "holder" so to speak) - it's massive!!

Of course, the actual bendy mirror itself is the big that breaks off but nevertheless, it did surprise me.

My MX5 one was kicked off.

Its now bolted and glued in place.

It may damage the door should it get hit again but a new mirror was a similar price to a used door so there's no loss.

There is a cheap kit that Maplins sell - it might just do the job. Its actually for putting a camera in a bird box to watch the birds in your garden But I'm pretty sure it would do the trick for what you need.

What I need is wing mirror locks for when the car is parked. Once the car is not moving there is no need for the mirrors to be adjustable after all!

Wing mirror locks with spikes..and camera's..
