I dont think it's a new piece of legislation, or if it is I cant see why something already in Due care and attention shouldnt be used

More red tape for the sake of political positioning to me

OK we all make mistakes while driving. Most PH's enjoy driving and probably make less stupid errors that the average driver. If a fine and some points make them a bit more thoughtful while at the wheel, I see it as no bad thing.

However. One must question if this is a good use of police resources when they are often apparently to busy to attend other crime and problems that plague some local communities.

So, more hit and runs then....even less of an incentive to play fair and swop details. Do these fking aholes have even the tiniest grasp on reality

To be honest? I'm in favour.

Every day I see instances of fking useless driving. People in car parks dinging other people's cars and just driving off. Yacking on phones. Wobbling out of their lane on the motorway as they fiddle with the stereo.

I hope this means more real, live, breathing Trafpols can catch these bds in the act and make them think twice about doing it again.

This idea is FAR better than sodding speed cameras.

After all - if you genuinely disagree about the offence you can go to court and argue your case.

Nobody will, though, because I'll bet they've been caught bang to rights.

Targets? Doesn't matter how high you make the target for catching tts driving. There's enough tts to go around. yes

Great, so even less chance of people hanging around after a minor accident. Nice one.

forget the £60, what about the 3 points?

since the dawn of the scamera, how many people are on the verge of loosing their licence though totting up?

at this rate, there will be no drivers on the road (legally)... or is this another way to combat conjestion?

you can look for the bad side to any argument/point

generally this will be a good idea, people are for ever moaning that speeding isn't important and that it's bad driving that causes accidents... when the government decide to do something about bad driving, people then moan about that!!!!!

I guess certain people on here will moan about anything that punishes the driver, whether it's justified or not

or perhaps.... certain people will say any measures brought in that they themselves can fall foul to is unfair, whether it's actually unfair or not is irrelevent, they will say it is because they get caught for it.

I can only go on personal experience ,I have had a driving licence for over 20 years and been a smoker for all that time and (touch wood) never had an accident ,I have even changed radio stations and taken the odd sip of water although now all of a sudden I am classed as an careless driver.

I don't read it as that my take on it is I can now be stopped and fined for doing any of those.

It's a good idea only as long as there are human beings to enforce it. Think about it for a minute, Is someone more likely to hang around and swap insurance details knowing that if the BiB get involved he will also cop 3 points and a £60 fine on top of his raised premiums?....if he has any in the first place.
Unless there actually is a Trafpol in the vicinity of the accident then it is far more likely to cause the guilty party to do a runner.

Of course, it's just that the downside of this particular idea is pretty fundamental as it actively encourages hit & run.

While I applaud the aim of raising driving standards this seems to be the classic "invent a new law, problem solved" attitude which ignores the root cause of the problem.
