Are flying jackets naff?

I have briefly considered buying one for open-top winter motoring, but a biker mate seemed to think they were, well, a bit naff. Any thoughts anyone?

Hmmmm....Never really thought about it. I tend to wear fleece type things.

not sure about naff.....but they keep you warmer than a fleece when making progress

Why should they be naff? They were designed for a specific purpose and they do their job well.

Basically, if it was OK for Biggles, it's OK for me.

I have one which i bought for using in the Chim for winter roof down motoring, however i found it a bit bulky and somewhat restricting when pressing on, not sure if they are naff! Tony

The wife bought me a pair of flying socks for a trip to the far east. They didn't work, I had to use a 747 instead. Right rip-off if you ask me.
I have my doubts that a jacket would be any better.

Deffo naff, get yerself a trenchcoat if trendy is your thang, me, I prefer a heavy black wool jacket a la donkey jacket (albeit made in Italy)

Not at all naff and more of a necessity if planning to drive something like a Morgan or Cobra replica in winter.

Beats the st out of catching pneumonia.

I went to a 1940's theme dance at RAF Betnwaters a couple of months back and although I was sensibly dressed in flying officers uniform one of the chaps who went along did do the full Biggles! .
