Getting the right polish

Hi everyone my first post here so nice to meet you all.
I have just bought a new Fiesta ST in performance blue (a run out car).
I have aquired the usual new bucket, sponge, chamois, leather cream, but wondered if anyone knew what polish/wax was best. I thought may be the basic Turtlewax colour magic(now + ).

Depends on budget. I use Zymol, but it's pricey.

Others get excellent results with Meguiars.

Pays your money, and have a choice. Go for it.

Do not mention Turtle Wax.

Do not mention you have a sponge and pretend you have 2 buckets (with grit guards).

You'll be fine.

Edit - Don't mention the chamois either. Keeps the receipts and take it all back. Ask on there and start over.

I use Auto Glym Aqua Wax on my car. It's so easy to put on and gives a really good shine.

I'm very impressed with Dodo Juice. It saves me money anyway, it's more expensive to start with but the finish and product lasts ages compared to normal off the shelf stuff.

I have used AutoGlym range of products for years now and never had a problem and more than adequate. I've tried others but always return. You can pay silly prices and spend sill time on detailing but I have a life too!

I have bought Meguires Scratch-X for scratches and Meguires clay / quick detailer (Meguiars Quik Clay kit). The latter is fantastic to remove embedded particles in the paint. I would use it, even on a new car, before you apply any polish to smooth/prepare the surface and then every 6mths or so.

I use microfibre cloths (multi packs from Tesco) rather than sponges as sponges can trap grit. The two bucket method of cleaning is a good one. Have one bucket with shampoo the other with plain water. The former to wash the car but rather than putting the dirty cloth back into the shampoo rinse it first to remove the grit. Also make sure to jet wash or hose the car to loosen or soften the dirt first. And never, ever, let a servicing dealer clean your car or use a washing or polishing cloth you've just dropped! The result is pretty much the same; scratches!

eta ALWAYS GET BIRD MUCK OFF THE PAINT asap!

I used to use the Polish chaps on the north ring-road in York. Used to do a cracking job. No longer there though now - bugger.

a big +1 for detailing world, very very helpfull, i blew £120 on car wash stuff but its worth every penny for the results you get!!

Im no expert but

Bucket = X2 one for soapy water one clean.
Sponge = Lambswool wash mitt
chamois = microfiber drying cloth

Good point.

If you cant stretch to the full on foam lance and pressure washer but want little more that just water to hose the car down then the Super Spray - Hose end sprayer is cheap

Zymol is Excellent and we do not use anything else for the past 8 years.

I just use one of those brushes you attach to a hose.
