Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas or info on this...

I've been suffering with insomnia for the past 6 months. I also suffer with an anxiety disorder and have been taking Citalopram 10mg for the last 4 months. I have been prescribed sleeping tablets (Zopiclone) 3 times in the last 6 months in short doses. However, my doctor will not prescribe anymore for fear of addiction.

Sometimes I sleep ok (5-7 hours). But it can take me up to 2 hours to get to sleep. Other nights I lay awake all night and finally go to sleep about 5am only to get up at 7am to go to work! On days like this I feel terrible.

I feel I have tried the obvious things and was wondering if hypnosis was an option. Has anyone had any experience with this?

I am at my wits end with this.

any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I suffer quite badly from insomnia, I have completely cut caffiene out of my diet but it is still not enough. Sometimes after lying there for over an hour there is nothing for it but to get up and go for a run, 2 -3 miles at 2AM and I can usually get to sleep after.
Either that or sit up and try watching BBC parliament wink

Been living with it for years, best thing to do is get up, don't stay in bed if you can't sleep.

Try again in 30 minutes.

I suffer from insomnia and like you have not had a decent night's sleep since August. I don't do pills if I can at all avoid them, so I;ve tried hypnosis and it didn't work for me. Had a number of sessions but really I can't recommend it from my experience. That's not to say it won't work for you. I know how miserable you must be when you don't sleep - the best thing for me is training and training hard. After a decent session at the gym I am always ready to fall asleep! That's why I've just rejoined the gym! Good luck and hope you beat it!

Mods - might be worth keeping this where it was for a while, the OP is a newbie and won't be able to respond to any advice given.

Try Melatonin (you will have to get it online). It is normally used as a cure for jet-lag. I've been using it when necessary for a few years.
Take one tablet about 30 minutes before you want to go to sleep. You will wake up in the morning with no "drug" effects as Melatonin is produced naturally in the body to tell your brain that it is time to sleep, some of us just need a little more!

Directors commentary on a DVD playing on a laptop and then put a t-shirt over the screen so its still dark in the bedroom. Works everytime for me.

Other than that - furious masterbation works a treat.

Try the following:

Do not have a TV in your bedroom.
Do not listen to the radio in your bedroom.
Basically, you need to remove any stimuli from the room. The bedroom should be associated with sleep and nothing else (apart from the obvious)
Try vigorous exercise, so that you can go to bed tired.
Try and reduce the stressors in your life so that you don't lie awake think about them.
If you can't, manage them better. Develop a plan for how you're going to deal with them - stressors tend be reduced if you can feel you like you have a plan for removing/reducing them.
Don't eat too late.
