anybody ever called one of these numbers, any use, do you think anything happens
Virtually had to do an emergency stop this am to avoid a national express bus who turned onto the main road I was driving along from a side road. Felt the ABS kick in and lucky didn't get rearended
What annoys me is I am sure he knew what he was doing, I was driving Mrs RR RAV4 which is bright green, good light, straight road, there is no way he didnt see me, he would probably have had to wait some time for a clear gap
Anyhow as I followed him for the next 5 miles, I had pleantly time to memorise his number and the call me nymber

Phoned Tescos to complain after one of their delivery drivers blocked the only route through a village just to save him 10 feet of extra walking. He was there for over 10 mins, refused to move. Memorised the reg number, wrote and phoned Tesco. They had no such record of such a vehicle....
I used to look after a couple of van drivers when I worked for Reynard. The vans were stickered up, and had the company phone number on (but not a "how's my driving" sticker). Occasionally I'd get an irate phonecall accusing the drivers of being homicidal maniacs, and almost without exception the driver would come into the office on his return, and without me saying anything he would tell me how he was nearly run off the road by some lunatic earlier in the day. Said lunatic always ended up being the person who called ranting earlier, I learned to take such accusations with a pinch of salt...
As you said, I reckon there would have to be a definite pattern of complaints before anything much happened.

I got overtaken and cut-up early one morning by a Royal Mail van - I was doing 30-35 in a residential 30 limit and he flew up behind me, sat on my bumper for a couple of minutes and then over-took. He then slammed on his brakes and stopped when I tooted the horn, before driving off as fast as possible in what sounded like first gear.
I had written down the reg and later that day I called Royal Mail head office and lodged a complaint. 2 weeks later I got a personal letter from the 'Operations Director' to tell me the driver had been disciplined after admitting the offence, and with it was a hand-written note (alledgedly!) from the driver apologising.
So, yes it is worth reporting it, but only if it was aggresive or dangerous. Poor driving is just standard in the UK these days, and I'm sure we'll all see a lot worse driving home from work tonight than what the OP saw...

Never called one of those numbers but I can sympathise with the OP. I spend a lot of time pounding the motorways, and with traffic the way it is more often than not at 60mph in the middle lane (no not hogging it, just moving past lorries etc).
Invariably if a National Express coach approaches it will be doing just over 60 and will tailgate until I move over. When I say tailgate I mean about 6 inches from my bumper, in the rear view mirror it looks like the driver is actually sat in the back seat. The drivers usually only have one hand on the wheel as the other is being used to gesture wildly at me to move over even when Im alongside a lorry.

ive driven various vans with company numbers on the back and invariably i do hear of people phoning in and takin a dislike to my driving but my boss takes it with a pinch of salt as my van is immaculate and has no dents and I drive according to conditions not dangerously etc, so my bosses have always binned em but tell me the amusing ones and have a laugh,
its the same with royal mail, etc etc. so all fall on deaf ears mainly! all they care is that the job get done, the van comes back in one peice and keep drivers happy, got more important thingss to worry about.

After tailgaiting a woman on the M1 for a few miles and frightening her half to death, the woman's husband emailed the employer.
At the disciplinary meeting they had the print-outs from the tracker on his van indicating 40 or so incidents of 100+mph in the preceding couple of weeks and almost every journey being over the speed limit at some point. This is after they'd already downgraded his van to something with lower power after a number of similar reports.
He still hasn't been punished for it, though.
