True, but surely a part of that was the fact that the best way for car workers at BL to get ahead was to go on strike and demand a pay rise from the government.

Once the government goes down the road of trying to run a car company they can't help but make these decisions political. If it works for a year until the economy picks up and then the company is left to it's own devices and to find it's own credit, then great, but my bet is that they'll be messing around with it for years until it's run into the ground as Rover was.
