How do you get the ice off your windscreen?

I generally rely on a blockbuster card scraped lengthways across the windscreen. If really thick I then use Barclaycard which seems to work better!

Tepid water for me, with the wipers running asap to make sure the water I just put on doesn't freeze too.

Would probably take a fair amount of tepid water to deal with the above though

Must admit I never understood why these aren't used by other manufacturers too - Mrs Mauls Focus has one and it is very good. I would have though the scandanavian companies would have used them, very useful in home markets or is the risk of cracking windscreen too high in v cold climate?

I park in an underground car park. Don't have ice and snow to deal with luckily.

I take a cheapo B&Q wallpaper scraper with me if I know I'm going to be parked up outside in icy weather though.

The '60 seconds' was a little tongue-in-cheek. It can take slightly longer than that depending on the severity of the 'freeze'. In all the weather we've had, I've not stood leaning over my screen with a scraper once. It's one of the features I'll really miss when the Focus goes, although it did take a while to get used to driving it when I first took delivery of it as the heating elements create some crazy patterns when viewing on-coming headlights in the dark.

Start engine, let car warm up. Once warmed up run defrost on.

Failing that, a proper ice scraper. I have a heated one that you plug into the cigarette lighter
