Pennyless ponces and test drives
Discussion
Should 'pennyless ponces' lie & cheat to gain serial test drives in cars they can only dream of buying???
Just read an 'anonymous' (of course, he's embarrassed) readers letter in todays 'Autocar' that seems to brag of 'blagging' test drives in the the last 18 months of a Bentley Arnage, Maserati Gran Turismo S & 4.2!, McLaren SLR Roadster, & Aston Martin DBS.
Presumably this twot assumes the car industry & dealers are there purely for his free amusement, like a kind of free P1 club for ponces.
I find his attitude infuriating, but it's becoming the norm in 'something for nothing Britain'

These people get my goat too, they will do it for anything available though not just the good stuff they will happily get a weekend in a family car just because they can. Its some sort of silly hobby designed for willy waving rather than the actual driving experience of a nice car.

edit
thoroughly agree about time wasters. only ever test drive the car that i want, and generally i have that down to a list of 1. how the car drives is generally immaterial as i'm not Lewis Hamilton.

I always wondered that too actually
Anyway, I seem to remember a very old episode of either Top or Fifth Gear, with Needel I think, giving advice on how to get free test drives ... buggered if I can find any reference to it though.
ETA, it might have been Quentin actually, can't quite remember

which is why you get genuine customers being refused test drives etc. It's a no win situation, and woe betide you if you dare tell people your dealership / showroom / workshop is appointment only
I prefer the appt only option TBH. It's a way of proving I really am keen on meeting up and also knowing the salesperson will have the time available for a test drive.
As a former car dealer I can assure you that nothing is more anger-inducing than some jolly boy after a thrash in your stock with no intention of ever purchasing.
If someone made it clear from the outset they were just dreaming then if I wasn't too busy, I'd take them out anyway. It's the little twunts who come out with a load of b
ks that brings on the homicidal thoughts.

Isnt this known as the "Free Market"?
Fair point Mr S.h.i.t Eating grin, if said 'Ponces' had any intention of purchase.
What we are objecting to here are the wanton freeloaders after a 'free' ride...savvy?
Oh! and let me guess? you are an employee & somebody else is responsible for your employer being 'profitable' ..yes?

Oh Indeed!
I have a friend who deliberately goes around getting test drives of random cars. He asked me if I wanted to go to the local VW dealer & test drive 1-2 things there. A friend & I made our excuses an went elsewhere...It's such a waste of the dealers time when he knows he won't be buying. Why he still insists on doing it is beyond me

It goes both ways doesn't it? If you could get someone to pay you ten times the RRP of a car, would you refuse the money?
And your guess was wrong.
Edited because the clap wasn't called for.
