Hi everyone. Later on today I am going to a colleagues house to look at her garage to see if my car will fit in with a view to renting from her. What I need help with is the cost. I am sure that she will ask me how much I think is reasonable! I have never rented a garage before and am unsure as to what to offer. Does anyone rent a garage and if so what sort of money should I be looking at per month?
It's in Nantwich, Cheshire.

A friend of mine pays £50 a month for a garage in a compound, but thats just big enough for his car - it all depends on the power/light situation - ease of access (is it likely to disrupt her if you come in late or leave early?) and demand...

Obviously depends where it is. If you can wait until Monday, phone the local council and find out how much it is to rent one of theirs. This will give you a baseline to start with.

Thanks for that! It's a double garage that they have and one half is empty. There is electric and it's separate to the house so no disruption to them.

I paid £80 a month for a single garage in Bath or £150 for a large one (3 cars).

+1

A garage in London will cost about the same as a semi-detached house in Yorkshire, for example!

Hi,
We've just started renting a garage from the local council as we've filled our garages up at home and still neeed new toys bounce.

The rent on the garage is £8 per week, area is Northampton.

Now just need to find something to put in it smile

Bristol City Council charge about £11 a week. £45 - 50 per month is about right for a lock up in Bristol, if that helps.

I rent out several in stockport and charge £60 per month - the council are cheaper but I joined their waiting list for a garage in my area in 1998 and am still waiting...

Friend rents a double garage in Tarporley and pays £100 per month

I'm paying £100 a month for a space in a secure underground car park in SW London

See what you can find on www.parkatmyhouse.com to get a feel for prices

Fek me! I just stuck my SW London postcode in that and people are charging per day, just for a space, up to £10.

So you'll be sharing a garage, what happens when a scrape/dent appears on the side of your car ? What happens when they leave the garage door open ? What happens when their kids run around the car and put their jam encrusted fingers all over your pride and joy? What happens when they die and they find two cars in the garage ?

Sorry, not trying to put you off but various things to think about as these things can become awkard at times.

She will be embarrassed to ask for more than you suggest. She does not use the garage, obviously. Suggest a fiver a month, or a quid a week.

I would imagine my SW postcode is a LOT further into double digits than yours is then!

I pay £40/mth to store a car in Northants area in the corner of a clean motorsport workshop - downside is slightly restricted access.

All sorted! Garage rented for £40 a month and access whenever I want. There are two doors in and I'm having the key to my side. They are into cars themselves and am happy that she'll be safe and sound. Thanks for all the advice!

I pay £25.00 per month for the use of my neighbours garage. It's right opposite my house and has power and lights. Aren't "older" neighbours great?
