I guess its a sign of the countries economic woes really, just seen my first 09 plated car on the roads. Its amazing to think how things can change in a year or two - there would normally be many new plate cars by now. Even remember seeing some new plate cars before the official release date before.

Other signs of the economic mess are the almost total lack of houses with For Sale signs up outside now in our town - people have given up trying to sell and are now sitting tight if they can. Guess thats looming negativeequity and much higher required LTV taking effect.

Obviously another sign is the amount of shops closing on the high street.

Have you seen any other perhaps less obvious signs of the the finacial downturn? Aldi's car park is always full nowadays too....

Restaurants don't seem to be as packed on a Saturday night anymore....

...but still see plenty of nearly new Cayenne Sports and RR Vogues round my way.

Tickets for Cheltenham Festival still for sale on the gate, that was unheard of a couple of years ago.

Only seen the one myself. Nice Z4 and it was amongst other late plate BMWs (and no it wasn't at a BMW dealership!).

I went to the opening showing of "Watchmen" in my town - barely one-third full.

Economic Impact? I've seen two '09 plate cars so far. The first being an X5 and the second an F430 Spider. It appears that not everyone is suffering from the credit crunch!

I haven't seen an 09 plate yet - and I live in an affluent area.

Locally shops have closed down, a great shame that these small 'niche' type businesses have gone and will be incredibly slow to return. I do hold the local council partly to blame, their council tax demands are ridiculous - 5.5% up in my area. If you're a local business who's seen trade just fall off a cliff, increasing the tax you have to pay to keep the fools in the council employed is, for many, just too much. Our local council seems to be increasing the issuing of parking tickets too - just to ensure that anyone brave enough to come into the town stays away.

The 'Surrey mums' (that 4X4 driving, gossiping, vacuous shoal) have moved, as one, from Waitrose to Sainsburys as their husbands (of which I'm one) desperately try to stop them spending such obscene amounts of money on things such as having a small bag of shopping delivered by Waitrose.

Breath deeply.

And

Relax.

I've noticed as many new cars as I ever have in the week-and-a-bit. I can think of six people off the tip of my head that have bought '09 cars, and my Kia/Fiat-selling car salesman friend tells me that March collections for him have been the highest he's ever known.

True - but let's be honest, what we're seeing today is how society should have been ahead of the economic crisis. The poor are poor and unable to spend money they don't have, the rich remain rich. It's time Labour supporters realised they can't have an easy life (new car each year, house paid for by someone else) and expect to obtain it watching television all day, eating a meal of junk food, before heading out and causing havoc for those good hard working people of this land who keep them in their Argos jewellery. They could die in the gutter for all I care.

No new regs here either.

My apartment is in the most affluent area of Birmingham and I am yet to see one....

The Michelin star restaurant down the road is still packed on a Fri/Sat, yet appears to have lost all of its midweek trade.

I have never had so many emails off my hairdresser informing me that they have appointments, basically, anytime I like. (this is after years of 10 days minimum lead time).

The chap who owns the corner shop across the highway in the Pikey area says he's busier than ever.....allegedly he's selling those tiny 25cl spirits bottles like hotcakes!

The chinese delivery across the highway, again, cannot get a delivery (yes, I'm lazy) to me in less than an hour as their kitchen is continually backed up.

A friend who runs a taxi company seems to be the hardest hit of everyone! His drivers aren't a happy bunch!

My mate's nightclub (the most expensive and exclusive in the city) is having a torrid time. Their spends are down so significantly it's hurting badly. Apparently, their champagne sales have halved since Xmas.....which were down on the year before!

This is just a snapshot of the people I deal with on a regular basis......all in all, not too clever. Not quite as apocalyptic as we all make out though I guess......

I fail to see how that can be taken as an indication of the current economic climate wink

Saw my first, a white TT, on Saturday. I pointed it out to my elderly mother. She wasn't interested.

A fair few around here, and a fair few driveways with 2 09 plate cars on them. But I live out in the sticks where there is no shortage of Range Rover owning ruperts who trade up their 08 plates to 09..
