Legal Protection - For Car/Bike
Discussion
Anyone know where you can buy legal protection cover other than the rip off merchants known as insurance companies? Friend of mine didn't buy her cover and doesn't want to pay the massive premium for the one that her insurance company offer. I'm pretty sure you can buy it separatley. Any ideas/links/suggestions?
Thanks

Most insurance brokers will offer a seperate "Before The Event" (BTE) legal expenses insurance product able to be purchased over their counter(s). The fee of which you could expect to pay £10-£20 these days.
Of this £10-£20 only a small portion say 10% goes to the underwriter of the policy leaving the balance of the fee going to the Broker as their commission. However, my personal experience of administering legal expenses schemes is that it is understood that the underwriter does not expect to have to make any payments by offering this indemnity. Hence most of these policies will have a "beyond reasonable prospects of success" clause. This clause can be invoked should there be a disagreement as to the onward progression of a case, between the claimant and the Solicitor/representative acting for them allowing the legal cover to be withdrawn. These policies only really come into effect in the event of a non-fault accident and where liability is disputed between claimant and defendant if liability is not an issue, there should be no need for legal expenses cover. If BTE cover is not in place prior to the accident occurring it is possible to purchase an "After The Event" (ATE) insurance at a cost of around £350.00 where claims on the policy cover are more likely to be resolved by the insurer. The cost of this ATE policy should be recoverable from the defendant in the event that the claimants claim is successful.
If you still want a BTE, then if you search for BTE legal expenses in Google you should find details of companies offering BTE schemes. Should you find one you are happy with by contacting them you should be able to find the nearest broker to you that will sell you one of their policies.
