Ok, I'm quite prepared to being labelled the tw@t in this instance but I'd like to see what people think, 'cause my wife seems to disagree with me.

I'm travelling home last night about to turn of the main(ish) road onto a side road when there is a stupid bint on her mobile crossing the road. She makes no attempt to hurry and is obviously not paying any attention to the road that she's crossing. As I come round the corner I don't exactly swerve to avoid her but make a point of driving close to her. I don't believe there was a chance that I'd actually hit her, unless of course she stepped backwards. But my wife thinks that I was in the wrong and probably should have stopped to let her cross or at least shouldn't have driven so close.

I was simply, and probably with a bit of red mist, trying to show this stupid cow that she should pay attention when cross a road or at least hurry a little if she sees a car indicating to turn.

If I was a tw@t then I hold my hands up and I'll learn from the incident however, at this stage, I think that pedestrians should be more careful whilst crossing the road and not generally walk out in front of cars!

Oh and this came after a day where 2 other knob heads arrogantly walked out in front of my car without a care in the world!

So tw@t or not, and why?

Probably not the best idea to drive to close. If it was that bad though then give it a good lean on the horn.

She has right of way. You have to wait until she has gone before pulling into the side road. Sorry, you are in the wrong on this one....(IMHO)

You are in the wrong, but the bint probably would have done the same on a main road, so you may have saved her life by teaching her a valuable lesson...

Was she fit?

Agree, pedestrian has RoW, though I know it can be infuriating.

Nothing more pointless than trying to educate other road users with a display of poor driving imo.

I understand the frustration though and will admit to doing something very similar, maybe more agressively even, when I've had chavs do the "I'm going to show off how 'ard I am to my mates by deiliberately walking out in front of this car, forcing it to brake hard" routine.

I had the opposite situation where someone turned in from a main road onto a minor road without indicating, came quite close to hitting me, so i administered a boot to the rear quarter of his car - was i in the wrong? boxedin

Really! I had no idea that she would have the right of way... why is that when she's on the public highway.

She was definately NOT fit btw... I would have been more lenient if she was!

Ok, fair enough, I was in the wrong, frustrated and most likely had red mist at the situation. Also, I agree that bad driving on my account doesn't help the situation.

I'll learn from the experience, I just really wish that people wouldn't have this 'I'm invincible so I'll cross the road without looking because people will stop' attitude.

agreed, horn was the way forward, highway code says..

Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence.

Sounds like a pretty clear cut case of a wake up call with a good horn blast! smile

yes "To warn other road users of your presence" - She'd certainly notice that, it'd have more effect and you don't have to risk hitting her.

When was the last time you read the Highway code? Just before your driving test, x years a go perchance?

It is annoying yes, and not very clever. Being in the right is not much consolation if you're lying in hospital (or worse).

The number of people on this site (for motoring enthusiasts) with zero knowledge of the highway code frightens me.

And i assume they must drive everywhere because it would be almost impossible to cross any minor side-turning along a busy road.

Ok, last time I read the highway code was a good 13 years ago so fair point. The point of this thread was to learn from my mistake so if you're able to educate me then great. I'm obviously not aware of that particular part of the highway code and would never claim to.

I really don't have an issue with admitting when I'm in the wrong and would rather positively learn from it smile

As a side note, my OH is terrible for stuff like this:

Few weeks ago, negotiating a mini round about. A Vectra cheekily nips out / misjudges our speed. The OH SPEEDS UP to the point of almost t-boning the Vectra. Literally a meter away from causing a collision.

I said "Why Did you do that?" Her reply: "It was my right of way! Should have given way etc etc"

I pointed out that it would have technically been her fault if they had crash, and it's no use saying that whilst laying in a hospital bed etc etc

OH says "Well you can hardly talk, remember the time....<insert driving error from several months ago here>"

This "nearly causing an accident to teach them a lesson" really fks me off.

EDIT: good to see the OP has learnt the error of his ways though smile

Was she in the road when you got to the junction, if so she had right of way and you should have waited for her to cross the road. If, however, she walked out infront of you (which has happen to me a few times now) then she was in the wrong.

Don't blame you at all for what you did, I probably would have done something similar, maybe not driving so close but I wouldn't have slowed down and I would have gave a good blast on my horn.
