In Nottingham this morning, there was a SIMULATED break down of one of the new trams, apparently in order to discover what effect it may have on traffic!
What on earth do they think will happen?
a) A broken down 33metre tram will have no effect on traffic flow
b) The traffic fairies will miraculously appear and make everything ok
c) THERE WILL BE A TRAFFIC JAM
Answers on a post card please. Winners will be drawn out of a hat and will have an all expenses trip to visit a scamera site of their choice

Well I'll join the 'whats the point' group, I used to live where it's starting from, and it follows exactly the same route as the existing train service, alright the rush hour trains were always packed, but putting on 2 more carrages would have solved the problem, and I'm guessing that would have been cheaper than the bloody Tram

Picture the scene....lunchtime last Friday, me & me mate walking through notts to eat a celebratory end of week pie, staring away at totty in market square, suddenly,my mate grabs my shoulder & whisks me to one side just as an empty tram silently glides within 2 feet of where we were walking.....talk about bloody dangerous, i mean, how can we stare at birds now

Headlines on local papers will be:
"Motorists causes breakdown of city public transport system. To solve this problem the city are bringing in a congestion charge fee of £50 per day payable by car drivers. This move has been welcomed by road safety experts"

Dunno whether to laugh or cry at that. The clueless muppets in charge here were the first stick their hand out for the congestion charging bandwagon and it lumbered past.

You don't get that problem in Mansfield
Only thing is there's no totty to be looking at anyway
Perhaps someone should mention fitting them with a speaker playing a V8 sound track

Liverpool recently got a large piece or road art called the "mersey wave".
Straddling route 6 ( south liverpool main trunk road - past jag plant/livepool airport).
Consists of several 30meter metal spikes each side of the road - looks rather like edward scissorhands had a road built over him. Metal spikes move in the wind, this giving it the movement suggested in its name.
Only the council - months after completion of the 'work of art' suddenly though it may distract drivers(by them looking at the 'art') thus decided it had to go.
They closed said route 6 down just before rush hour, and kept it closed for the better part of a week whilst the , I assume stupidly expensive piece of art was removed.
Full marks to the council for that one.

The whole tram thing makes me laugh, especially when, as raceboy says, they spend millions building the new track down the side of the train track....Brilliant!!!
From what i have heard, in Sheffield, after millions of investment & years of disruption, the only ones to use their tram system are schoolkids & tourists.....!!!

As for trams. were aparently getting some, and there going to kirby. fk knows why, not to the footy grounds or airport (still without decent public transport links). to kirby. aparently someone works there.
Just got back to amsterdam adn more transport = more confuzion on the roads. bikes, cars, trams, bedestrians all over the place , I'm amazed I survived.

In Sunderland, the council worried about the number of pedestrians getting knocked over, so changed the roads to prohibit cars from entering the city center.
After doing this, pedestrians were still getting knocked over - by the busses.
So now, the busses are restricted to 20mph - have you ever seen a bus observing a 20mph limit?
