Car bubble storage device

Hi all

Thinking of one of these for the expanding family, seems like a good idea and quite reasonably priced, does anyone on here use one? if so, how effective is it, does it stand up to a windy day ok? and how's it wearing etc...

I only know about the interior ones, which are excellent. I'd suggest a look at one in the flesh first, plus a few bungees to hold it down (and retain it to the wall when not in use).

I've had an interior one for about 6 years and it's very good at doing what it does. It's a bit of a pain if you want to get the car out for a quick spin now and again, but I used it for my E-Type which would go away for the whole winter so it was ok.

Snap - I had an indoor one for my E-Type too.

There were two problems I found with it.

First the connections for the fans were very easily damaged. I got Carcoon to post me some new ones and soldered them on myself.

Secondly, after a couple of years use the zip got buggered where the car drove over it and was very tricky to zip up at that point.

Despite the niggles it was a useful thing to have.

how was it a pain, does the whole thing deflate every time you bring the car out then?

cheers to everyone for the insight, I shall be making up some kind of anchor if the external version does'nt allready have one, maybe leave the missus in there when I'm out in the car

No, it just floates the air through, which is helpful to transport condensation away, and prevents new condensation. Doesn't help with moisture soaked mud though.
IMHO, a clean car will be rust-free for ages

My brother has an interior one for theSe7en. Functionally it is great (as he says, after a wet run, the rivets were furring before the garage doors were shut - now it's fine. Just park it and zip up)

The problem is that effectively you have a tent, which is likely to collapse when you deflate it. If it doesn't have a structure, you've got a pile of polythene to move around and lying on the floor getting dirty and damaged. My brother rigged up some cables to the ceiling, so if he wants to work on the car he can lift the top section away (and pin it to the wall out of the way).
There are some that have a frame structure, but even than, it's nice to know it's not going to be blown about, and is easy to move away when you want good access to the car.
