A mate of mine is having severe bouts of Boxster-itis and considering dumping a Griff 500 for a Porschia Boxtaaaa....

Is he turning gay? Has he lost the plot? Or is it a sensible decision?????

Dunno, we might try and get a test drive in one later in the year for "comparison" purposes.

Can't imagine an unbiased opinion from you on that subject mate.

I spoke to someone about the very same subject last week and told him to go test drive the Boxster before he made any decision.

No Offence but Boxsters are for men who can't handle real cars

Er yeah, right.

Gregs suggestion of taking a test drive is the most sensible thing on this thread so far.

PS - One PHer has both a chim and a Boxster S, so clearly both cars have merit in different areas.

They are both fine automobiles it has to be said. Perhaps your mate is just sick of the TVR niggles?

They arent for everyone and you I am sure Andy will be first to admit that TVR's do have a bit of a give and take on the ownership experience so perhaps its just a quality of life thing?

Personally though I would keep the Griff, bloody big girls blouse!

I drove one last year and it was an S. It wasnt on the same planet as my Tamora (this was before the T350) in terms of handling and performance.

However it was miles better built and it did seem much more useable every day.

tough choice if you dont want two cars.....I can see the benefits, but would you be selling out???

Seriously, I would take a Boxster over a Griff as an everyday car, the Griff is more of a Weekend car than an everyday car. The Porsche is going to have far better build quality and won't leak.

I have to say, having had a griff 500 and subsequently having had a good drive of my mother's 2.7 Boxster, the griffith is undeniably on a different planet performance wise, however, i think point to point taking most road conditions and bends etc it would take a very good driver in the griffith to make any serious headway.

Above suggestions are all valid - go and drive one & then decide, you may have a surprise.

"Much more useable every day"

I think you've answered that one pretty well, Andy. Aside from a washer bottle the size of a Coke can, I would agree with that.

I was under the impression this guys missus might also drive it from time to time. "Mr X" was quite surprised when I told him my missus (at 5 foot nothing) can drive her Boxster with no problems at all.

O/T good to have you back again, mate.

Cheers Greg. It's nice to be back.

Mr X's number plate would look silly on there too.....

But I can see why he would do the dirty deed as I have considered it myself....My TVR doesnt get used enough and its a waste.

I replaced my old Chim with a 2.7 boxster...the handling is sublime compared to the Chim, but no doubt the Chim is faster is a straight line. The boxster handling is on a different level to the Chim...sorry, but it is. On a twisty road the boxster will easily keep up with the Chim, on a straight the TVR leaves the box for dead, if it can get the power down in a straight line.

I can lap Knockhill a fair bit faster in the boxster than the Chim (Knockhill has a short straight and lots of hard braking and corners).

In my opinion, having owned both a TVR and a Boxster, the boxster is a more enjoyable car to drive.

Let the "real man's car" comments begin....

Right sod it, seeing as I'm being "outed" by the wheezing one I'll pull up my skirt and come clean with the whole story.

I've currently got a diesal passat for work, a griff for play, and Mrs Mel has a 206 which she hardly ever uses as she commutes by coach and it sits on the drive 95% of the time. I'd ordered an A3 3.2 with DSG for work but after a conversation last week with Mrs Mel she wants something like an MX5 to replace her 206. So seeing no point in having 2 2 seater sports cars (alright stretching the sports bit with the MX5 ) that would both get very little use, I'm considering selling the lot of them and getting a Zasara Picasso diesal thingie for work and a Boxster S 550 to replace the Griff and for her to use as and when. I love the Griff have had great fun in it but if I'm honest its a bit of a brute and Mrs Mel has never really liked driving it in anything other than lovely sunny conditions. I've just got a nagging feeling that I'm selling out and going over to the "dark side". Oh yes and no I can't afford a 911 but its got to be brand new as I qualify for tax free status on new cars. Will I regret it ??????

Cheers Andy, and just to get even Mr Flasher actually confessed he was considering doing the same thing with his T350 so that his Mrs could drive the Boxstaaaaaaa, maybe homosexuality is catching

Whether or not he should buy a Boxster or not, surely it is not the right time to buy now with suggestions of new model around the corner.
