Cadillac V16 with 1000 bhp

AMERICAN CADILLAC IS trying to out-break marques like Bentley, Rolls-Royce and Maybach. Domestic luxury leader Cadillac isn't ready to cede the upcoming Detroit auto show to its import competition, writes the American online magazine The Car Connection today.

Caddy plans to challenge ultra-lux marques with a V-16-powered concept vehicle that "suggests" an up-market shift in direction for General Motors' flagship marque. A 1000-horsepower, naturally-aspirated, 90-degree V-16 engine will serve as the heart and soul of the sedan, appropriately named the Cadillac Sixteen.

With the engine nearly as long as two V-8 Northstars bolted end-to-end, the huge hood will dominate the design of the car, which measures 220 inches nose-to-tail. But the Sixteen won't be a retro mobile. Its styling will emphasize the Art & Science design theme of such current Caddy vehicles as the CTS sedan. Sixteen is a joint effort of GM and Canadian metal supplier Alcan. The body is all-aluminium, wrapped around a primarily aluminium spaceframe chassis.

Even so, the huge vehicle will weigh in at close to 5000 pounds. There'll be a short/long-arm suspension and for those who like big wheels, the Sixteen will be shod with 24-inch tires. Pulling a page from the Maybach handbook, the 4-seater will feature fold-down, business class-style rear seats. Interior styling has been influenced by the luxury goods maker, Bulgari.

Cadillac has worked with the super sports car Cyan concept car (images) – perhaps the 1001 unit will fit into the Cyan and make it the aggressive alternative to the Bugatti Veyron – 1001 bhp and W16 power plant.

The Cien will have a 750bhp Northstar v12 (edit:if they ever make the thing).

The Sixteen (which most of your piece seems to be about) is a typicl big engined big car from the US (cadi used to make v16's way back in the 30's). I cant see an engine that huge and heavy going into a sport car.

True, the V16 is enormous and I very much doubt it would fit into a sports car - even a Diablo-sized monster.
It could only envisage the engine being used in the Sixteen (obviously) and perhaps some ridiculous SUV. Selling such an engine in this day and age would be brave though.

Seems quite small to me, look it's only about 4 inches across. That'll fit into anything

Huuum, how many bhp does a fully blown spitfire engine make. I bet there is not much physical size difference between the two.

Merlin started at 1500bhp, 24litre v12 - 750kg or so.

Spitfire ended up close to 3000bhp.

A lot heavier on the gass tho

Also in this mobcar. Still looks better than a Maybach . . .
