Had a call from 'a friend', who caught a youth keying his car. Bonnet, n/s door, rear quarter and just started on the boot. Evidently quite deep scratches. The VERY interesting thing is, he has got him locked up in his garage, phoned me asking what the hell to do with him now? I know what I would like to do, but he has to decide within the next hour, otherwise he will find himself in trouble. A few words of wisdom from you lot may not go amiss, because in all seriousness, I don't know what to advise

Don't suppose any savage dogs might inadvertantly find themselves in the garage at the same time?

Does the garage have any stairs?

Get him out of the garage, now! Sad but true, but in this it's-far-easier-to-arrest-the-victim world, that can be counted as false imprisonment. I used to work in mental care and this used to come up a lot - believe me, it's a bd to disprove.

Your friend could try to get his name and address and possibly a photo, then get rid and give that to the police when they arrive. I wouldn't go into too much detail about keeping in the garage though.

Regards,
Justin

Tell the Police that on making a citizens arrest and catching the culprit red handed, you friend was threatened by the offender. The offender reached inside saying he was going to produce a screwdriver/knife - and therefore your friend was forced to defend himself with reasonable force given the situation. Also find a witness.

The above information is given on the basis of what I would do, and should not be taken as necessarily being what your friend should do or whether this is within the law. However, this may act as a suitable deterrant for other little toe rags to make them think (if capable) before committing criminal damage to motor vehicles.

Attach hose to exhaust pipe, stick into garage through window ? - would be a really really bad way to deal with the situation, and not something I would dream of suggesting.

Seriously - POLICE

The sensible and law abiding option is to call the law and let them deal with it. You better hope you have a copper sympathetic to the state of the nation though because a do-gooder may start booking your mate instead.

Then it will be dealt with by our glorious legal system...

Alternatively, go and see you mate, help him kick seven shades of shit out of the lad and make sure its impressed on him that if he or anyone he knows comes anywhere near your mates postcode that he's going to get a kicking again...

Your friend will require compensation for his paintwork. So don't release the little bugger - just get the BiB down ASAP to deal.

based on the fact that you aren't going to get anything by way of repayment through the legal system, i would kick the living shit out of him, then claim through your insurance, if you can get details of the lad, try and extort money off his family (unless he is from a shitty family, in which case just give him another kicking)

Unfortunately the legal system is an ass and won't do anything

A sad sign of the times, it is the only way for them to learn the error of their ways

I had my car keyed at the weekend, the cost of repair is over £2k (thankfully my insurance will cover it) so I'd be most grateful if you took Plotloss' "seven shades of shit" advice
