You wanted a commonrail Leon. You bought an older PD Leon.

HTH.

and if you get 47 you'll be lucky.

I had the same car on a 57 plate. I very very rarely saw the top side of 43.

Quoted mpg doesn't mean a bean. Good luck getting 42mpg from your 55mpg car and 37mpg from your 47mpg car during mixed use.

I cant stand mpg figures. They're all wrong imo. Its how you drive it.

I got 35mpg out of a 3.0 diesel vectra but it got driven fairly hard.

I get 30mpg out of the st220 and it gets driven like a granny.

I wouldn't have thought it will be exactly expensive to run though? If you want a real world 50ish mpg car, you'll have to look at far more tedious stuff. You'll manage it, where there's a will and all that....

it will be cheap to run compared to the petrol version, the common rail only came in in 2009

IIRC the older PD motors can take a Veg oil / Diesel mix (my old 53 plate golf did for 90k) so you can make a little saving by running 1/3 veg oil and upto 50% in the summer (currently £0.94 a litre from Costco)

oh that sounds good, are these engines still as reliable as the common rail version?

47 mpg is pretty cheap to run... just learn to drive more economically if you want to save the pennies.
