I'm interested to know whether people wear a seatbelt in a taxi whether you are in the front or back and travelling for 5 minutes or an hour

No option to cover it but always yes when sitting in the front and generally no when sitting in the back. I know its stupid not to wear one but I can't think why I don't normally bother when sitting in the back.

Yes. Why the hell wouldn't you? With some of the taxi drivers around my way a four point harness and fia cage would be very welcome.

The way some of the taxi drivers drive around here, i'd say it's essential!

Yes, it's a habit for me to do it so no matter what car it is I always have a seatbelt on.

Yes.

I feel uncomfortable without one on. I also do not like when someone is sitting directly behind you without their belt on.

Of course, it's stupid not to, especially when you're being driven by someone you don't know.

I do when in minicabs but not when I'm in the back of black cabs.

There is less furniture to break your fall/catapult in a black cab style... smile

Sometimes. Often I don't though as I don't usually use taxis unless I'm drunk.

I've never once heard a taxi driver ask me to put a seat belt on though.

Friend of mines daughter got a £20 fine for not wearing one when the taxi got pulled over by the police. So I would wear one if i ever were to use a taxi from now on

I'm surprised by the number of yeses(?). Are we talking about black cabs here? I can only think of one person I know who does this

I was going to say that it's a car so you are legally required to wear a seatbelt. £20? I thought the fine was £200 for adult passengers and £200 for the driver if the passengers were children.

Always, unless we're trying to get 8 into the back of a Datsun Bluebird and the driver puts the minicab sign in the boot...

I refused to pay for a Taxi ride because the driver spent most of the journey on the phone with out wearing his seat belt. I sat in the back taking photo's of the journey with my phone. He said if I refused to pay he'd call the Police. So I told him when the Police got here I'd show the the photo's of him driving without a seatbelt whilst on the phone and then report the driver to the council so even if he did keep his licence he'd lose his Hacknek Carridge plate.

I've also asked a Taxi driver to pull over so I could get out because he was driving so dangerously I felt my life was being put at undue risk.

I never wear my seatbelt when I'm in a taxi. Then again I don't have to as I'm the driver.

I know taxi drivers don't legally have to wear them but do wonder why you wouldn't. Do taxi drivers really get in and out of their so often that putting the seat belt on is a big issue?

Its not the getting in and out that is the problem. It's the fact that at least 4 drivers that I've worked with have been choked with their belts. For me I'd much rather be able to get out and away as quick as possible if I was attacked.
