Woman Gets 6 Points and £200 Fine.
Discussion
Take a minute to think about this.
Why was she doing only 5mph at times?
If it was cos she was nervous at the wheel and the like, then she should have had her licence revoked.
What does 6 points and a fine do other than clutter up her licence and make her £200 poorer.
Will it do anything for her driving in future?
Will this possible nervous and unsure driver end up driving faster, say 30mph
, in future causing her to panic and possibly cause an accident/injury/damage to property?
Rather than giving a horray to the magi's for pinning this on her I am more swayed to criticise them for blindly imposing a pointless punishment that doesnt appear to me to deal with the cause or possible future consequences of her actions.

The same could be said for points/fines in general...

She was down to walking pace going round corners on a rural road not far from me. Her solicitor said she had never driven in the dark before and was nervous. I believe she is 75 years old. This fine (not necessarily the amount) may make her change her ways. Maybe she won't drive in the dark again if she's so afraid. Personally, I think the police and the court should be applauded in recognising that it isn't always EXCESS speed which is the problem. Many years ago, the police in my area stopped a driver who was doing 20mph on the motorway, long before the current anti speeding stuff we hear about these days. BTW in my area there are NO fixed Gatsos, they only appear when you cross the borders to the next police areas
Jim's'Chim,
It appears to me the courts have simply punished her for doing something contrary to something else and not paid much attention to fitting the consequential action to the offence ie If she can only drive at 5mph around a bend in the dark is she fit to be in control of the vehicle.
More fundamentally, Is she IN control of the vehicle?
These questions are left unanswered and as far as i am aware there has been no consideration of her future potential actions inher vehicle.

In general points and fine are suitable for breaches that do not involve questioning your suitability to possess a licence or your ability to control your vehicle.
Take a middle-lane hogger, points and fine are appropriate for this offence.
Doing 100mph through a town centre midday on a saturday, would warrant more than points and a fine.
Driving at 5mph cos your shite scared and unsure what your doing warrants a review of your abilities and reconsideration of your competence to hold the licence.

I'm guessing he was replying to a throw-away post I made and then thought better off. I deleted it pretty quick, but obviously not quick enough![]()
Sorry.
No I'm sure you deleted it quick enough cos I never saw it.
Just heard this on the radio.
Does it not strike anyone else here that the biggest problem here is not this woman, but people's inability to overtake? It smacks of laziness, lack of driving skill, poor observation or simple stupidity.
I bet the only reason she came to the attention of plod is because of the 20 stupid twats stuck behind her.
I mean, the woman clearly shouldn't be driving, but if you can't overtake this person, then you shouldn't be driving either!

Plotloss said:You'd think so wouldn't you, but there's a lass who just started working at our place who lives in N1. The other day she drove up the M3 in 3rd gear because she's hardly ever driven out as far as the north circ let alone a fast flowing motorway.
Send her to London for the day, that'll sort it out one way or the other.

You know this road then? You sure you could overtake her in the dark?
