Yes this would be good to know; I have a reg i've not used in a number of years as I don't A) wish to try to hide the age of my vehicles or B) wish to be easier to spot - only thing I get from people i've asked is "Probably between £5-10k". Seems a bit of a rough estimation, it would be good to have somewhere you could get an accurate market value.

Its really just a case of look for similar plates sold prices, then name a price your happy with and wait for a sale.

Or

Stick it in a specialist plate auction and take your chances.

Tho the 3rd option is advertised it with a plate company who will tell you its worth loads , put the price high then over the weeks chip away at your price saying markets flat etc, and take a load of commission if it ever does sell.

Always interested me how plates pass through probate and whether the true value is included in the estate. I can imagine it’s very easy for the transfer of them could happen very easily under HMRC radar for inheritance tax purposes; see also valuable watches/jewellery

No different to cars really especially as the V5 is no indication of legal ownership.

RK 35 - Lotus Excel, on an old episode of Taggart. Not currently coming up.

4 YDA - Mercedes, but predictably they had crammed it all together.

27 BA - Porsche Macan.
30 JE - Flat black Porsche 911 Turbo.

If you want them sold then either ebay or collectingcars.com

Or advertise them with a plate dealer where they could take days to sell.... or 10 years

This is the whole point of them. You can transfer them onto a cheap but MOT passed car at death and HMRC will only calculate the value of the vehicle for inheritance tax. You don’t own the plate, you only own the right to display it.

See other such wheezes such as woodland and forests which are exempt from inheritance tax.

I’m not sure that’s the ‘whole’ point of them as I rather enjoy mine whilst alive, but does seem an easy way to avoid IT.

Yes, he's on the board/an executive at The Lane. Always in the car park on matchdays.

I saw a MR5 and a M155 plate within a few cars of each other yesterday.

Made me chuckle.

Those asking prices seem very optimistic. Seem to be double what you could get similar plates for in a DVLA auction.

ALL Double digit 'TT' and 'TH' number's have now been sold in the DVLA Auctions... So if someone wants one now they have no chance at any DVLA Auction... so they would have to look at the open market.
