Hmm, just get a MK7 ST...
Won't last long where I live, they get nicked almost as often as motorbikes.

Anyone else agree that this is an attractive, clean, unfussy design, unlike the recently axed Fiesta?
Yes I agree, but it was from the Parry-Jones era when Ford hardly put a foot wrong. Once he left, I feel Ford were in a slow decline, the MK3 "World" Focus being a good example. Such a bland looking car. I also think the Aston Martin fronted LCI MK7 doesn't look as good as the earlier MK7s, particularly the rare MK7 Zetec-S which for me is a particularly attractive and under-rated warm hatch. The MK7 ST had a different grille so looks quite good IMO.

As much as I try, I just can't see a £13,000 car.
Had a quick look to see what's available for the same money ...
2015 Audi TT, 2015 MASERATI GHIBLI V6, 2014 M135i, 2001 911 Carrera 2, mint EP3 Civic type R, 2016 MX5, just as a small selection.
I think you would have to be a real Fezza Fanboi to think 13k is good value.

A great car but not at that price. Put some miles on it and its value plummets so unless you intend to keep it as a hopeful investment, I can’t see why anyone would pay half the asking price for this. Nice to see nonetheless.

I test drove one of these when new, about 2006. I wanted to like it, but wasn't over impressed, it didn't feel anywhere like as lively as a Clio 172 Cup had previously spent time with.

I had driven lower powered 1.25 and 1.4 versions of the Fiesta and enjoyed them and I know some have said the 1.6 Zetec S was actually the sweet spot, which I can believe.

I do wonder whether the ST could come alive though with some slightly smaller/lighter wheels and a hotter cam in the engine.
I can believe that too. I had the 1.4 which was a lovely steer (even after 98k miles it was way better than an £850 car bought from a used car lot in Croydon had any right to be). A 1.6 would have brought more overtaking oomph, but the 2.0 engine was designed as a motorway cruiser for Mondeos...

On the face of it, seems like a lot of money, but most similar cars are £3K to 4K with 80’000 + miles; buy this and do average mileage and you’ll get another 10 plus years out of it.

The 2 litre in the ST was actually a Mazda engine. It doesn't feel nose heavy in the slightest. We had a 205 GTI 1.9 before our ST and that felt heavier up front. The difference in kerb weight between the 1.6 Zetec S and 2 litre ST was fairly modest, less than you would think. According to the Parkers website, 37KG .......it was the smaller wheels and more playful set up in the 1.6 that made the difference. The ST is quite strait laced. It doesn't really do lift off oversteer, just grips and then understeers....the engine is also a little dull. Feels torquey low down but not fizzy at the top end. I owned a Mk1 Mazda 6 at the time we bought our ST which had the same basic engine. They were so different in character though. Strangely, the Mazda was gutless low down, but really liked to rev out. At the top end if anything it felt stronger than the ST, despite the 200KG extra kerbweight.....

The Zetecs do handle better then the Duratecs. I think when you drive a Zetec S and an ST back to back it becomes apparent. It doesn't do lift off oversteer but they have a tendency to bring the arse round under heavy braking. It's how a lot of them get smashed up/written of, from my understanding.

I can imagine the 182 at 12k, but I bought my ST in 2008 (it was the facelift model), Renault were already well into selling the 197 which was quite a bit more expensive.

I sold mine as my daughter was on the way and we needed a bigger boot and ours was only a 3 door. This would have killed our backs. So it was sold and a sensible four door saloon with a big boot was purchased....an Impreza WRX

Yup I was working for Renault at the time, and my line manager got one for under £10k... brand new... insane. Bring those days back grumpy

I like them but there wasn't enough grunt for the time. Ten years earlier they would have been an all time great, the Clio 172 and Mini Cooper S overshadowed them. They should have had the Focus ST170 Zetec. Underwhelming engine in the Focus but perfect for the Fiesta.

I know there is a disdain for mods, but the Rotrex supercharger kit that a few people fitted made them manic and real sleepers.

At this point the values are too low for such an expensive mod, and later Fiesta generations were even better so that is the preferable option.
