I'd bet a few quid on it being an old dear who has has suffered from a randomly malfunctioning out-of-control car pedal confusion.
Old driver near me went through the hospital entrance!https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cerpw048w9xo

I dread to think how much carnage the older lot will cause with EV on the rise.
Lol. There's always someone who has to mention EVs in a thread that has nothing to do with them. Most EVs slow as soon as you remove your foot from the accelerator pedal so probably safer. There's always someone who hasn't actually read the thread, but decides to comment anyway showing themselves to be a bit of a buffoon.
To save anyone else the crayons, the incident is most likely due to the driver in a mild state of confusion pressing the ACCELERATOR instead of the brake and an EV car would do exactly the same as an ICE car under those circs.
However, with their far greater rate of acceleration from a stop and greater weight by comparison, I agree that the resultant impact of an EV being poorly driven under similar circumstances is likely to be a little greater, hence a bit more carnage.....

Who taught old people to stamp on the brake with such force? Really don't think people whose reaction times are so slow that they can't figure out they've pressed the wrong pedal before they're halfway up a car should be on the road. Scary!
They stamp on it harder when the car doesn't stop!I do wonder whether a mistake was made teaching drivers that the same foot should operate both pedals in an automatic. If it were the norm to drive two-footed, footwells could be arranged so that you couldn't easily press the wrong pedal.

I'm going with automatic, in the wrong gear by mistake and a confused older driver pressing the wrong pedal and then pressing it harder still because it's still moving...

They must be thankful for their low insurance premiums being subsidised by all the careful younger drivers out there. I'm just trying to get my 87yr old father-in-law insured on the 20yr old mini he's been driving for 20years. £1,200. It's only worth £800.
We're toying with selling him my wife's 2019 118i - that would be £1,500. We're in pretty much the same postcode and my wife pays £230 on the 1-series currently, and I pay £750 on my SVR.
