Maybe better with black and the darker panels as per the below image but it’s pretty striking!

I like the idea of a (early) 500SL more and more lately. It would only be for summer cruising and a 300 or 300-24v would probably be more than adequate, but that’s besides the point. It’s a 500 I really wantCrook said:

Stunning. 6800 miles is criminal.

I believe part of the reasoning behind it was to “shrink” the car a little; as has been said, they almost look dainty now.
My car has the correct-spec plastic panels - r129 aficionados know them as Sacco panels. And gingercators- they should have gingercators at this age.
I’m probably, definitely or maybe going to replace the soft top this year. It works well, but looks a bit shabby at 34 years old.
Is this a rollover bar showing in the later photos of ::this one::

They might be a long way from you but I cannot say enough nice things about BAS International. They put a roof on my XKR that looks identical to the OE one for £500 less than the cheapest alternative (who were fitting a roof made by BAS anyway), they were really friendly, and the chap even showed me around the factory where they manufacture them. They can replace just the front or rear sections of R129 hoods it appears, and have 10 colours to chose from.
3 month waiting list though so get your booking in!

I’m based up in North Yorkshire, so some way off, but I’ll bear them in mind.

The 1990 H-reg car will have been supplied with satin finish darker lower panels when new; they’re trickier to get the finish right than gloss, so many are gloss- finished these days.
