RE: Super-fast for £50k | Six of the Best
Discussion
That's a great list. There will always be others that could have been included. I'm not sure a tuned 1 series is the most obvious omission (but even that is a fun car in its own way, and I'm sure the developing of it is part of the fun).
It's quite rare to see one of these articles where I really quite like them all. It's the C63S which appeals most as a usable car.

Some really weird people on here. Getting mad that a sorted 140i would be just as quick if not faster that most of the list. Then bash said poster comparing it to the new “mapped 335d is the quickest car ever”.
This is titled “fastest for £50k”, not fastest track car, not best handling car, not fastest best spec’ed car.
I assume it’s if you line up on a 2 mile runway, what gets to the end fastest.
Anyway. For outright speed I’d be buying a gen 1 hayabusa building the engine and strapping a large turbo to it. Forget the list, you would be embarrassing a lot of hyper cars. All for £20k or less.
lol who’s irate?! The comments were more:This is titled “fastest for £50k”, not fastest track car, not best handling car, not fastest best spec’ed car.

- Fast has many metrics
- nowhere does it state 2 mile runway
- a 140i isn’t the same car in feel as a M3 regardless of mods
- these cars are out of the box fast and drivers cars
- if we’re talking ‘modded and fast for 50k’ not sure 140 would get a look in
If it was modded for £50k so I had another £25k to spend on a M140 I’m sure you could create something mighty impressive like a full blown time attack car that really would slaughter the whole list!
It’s just fun chat and comparisons people don’t need to get so defensive about what they’ve spent their money on
And ‘feel’ doesn’t mean fast, the slowest caterham will have better steering and chassis feel than 99% of cars but it’s not fast.
Maybe we change the thread to ‘cars with best driver feel and engagement and reasonably brisk for £50k’

My 1 litre Fiesta is fast. It will do 115mph.
Yep. It’s enough to get you into a fair bit of trouble.Top speed is irrelevant above 130kph (generally the upper limit in EU) unless you’re on a derestricted German autobahn or a track day.
Or you have blue flashing lights on your vehicle.

If it's just about usable speed for under 50k, then surely a Tesla 3 Performance would qualify...
Early ones are quite a bit less than £50k too. I'm interested to see the new one in the metal and in comparisons with rivals. But yes, they are a quick car.Edited by Oliie on Tuesday 14th May 03:53
Simple. Crazy fast. Crazy cheap to run.
Kia EV6 GT
And so much better than a Tesla M3P

I've had 4 out of those 6. 3 at the same time. Still got the 996, though it's fairly well modified now.
Not sure what I'm more impressed with - the cars in the garages or the M135i with L Plates on it This is probably one of the first lists I could happily own any of them, apart from possibly the Caterham (respect them massively but not really my thing). For me it would be a coin flip between the Alfa and the M3, although I may keep flipping until the M3 comes up.

Pretty sure I see the EV6 GT getting beat in drag races by the Tesla Model 3 Performance on YouTube.Kia EV6 GT

Can get the Model 3 performance for £22-25k while a EV6 GT is a good bit more needing £40k.
What’s makes the EV6 GT so much better especially for near double the money?

Why bother...just get the M140i and get it mapped. It's almost as good if not better, according to this thread....This is probably one of the first lists I could happily own any of them, apart from possibly the Caterham (respect them massively but not really my thing). How would you compare the GTR and 996 for a dailyable track day car? Say 4-6 a year and a euro trip? I just had more invested in the 996 and it's a road car for me, which I think it does better.
Porsche are faster at the same power, I think it's the traction and reduced drive train losses, but you won't be disappointed with either. GTR was 4.25 and running about 650hp, porsche about the same with Billet K16, but now around 800 on a built 4.0. Tech is miles ahead on the GTR.

Was a great car and I was surprised how quick it was, though it wasn't the most confidence inspiring rear end. She passed her test in that car!

800bhp in a 996 Turbo? I find a completely standard car is more than quick enough and can't imagine how terrifying it must be to have double the power when you bury the throttle into the carpet!Hoofy said:

I've done 203mph in a tuned 997, it's actually very easy to drive and very stable. Gets a bit squirmy under braking perhaps but otherwise not a major worry. The acceleration is relentless, pretty similar to a tuned BMW 140i :-)

My old 650bhp Skyline GTR was bad enough.
