Yes, well considering that Ford sold 726,624 of the F series in 2023 and that is just Ford... not Chevy, RAM, Tacoma or any of the pick ups made in America. Even a Hyundai Santa Cruz has sold 36,000 and they aren't playing the plucky Brit card.

We haven't even got onto the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser/4runner in the room.

Spotted this one at a supermarket in Liverpool last night and just had to park behind it before having a nosey (without looking like I was casing it to steal!).
Not seen one in this flat baby blue colour before, and it doesnt even appear to be an option on the configurator? Definitely suited it though, I was rather envious....

^^ I think it looks a *lot* better. Even though they're the same units, the rear lights somehow look less jarring. Bed is too small to be useful, though. But that can be said for pretty much all double-cab pickups.

I saw two in Bucharest a couple of weeks back and another one parked outside a hotel in Brasov. The one in Brasov looked great in black with black steelies and chunky offroad tyres.

Well to give some context, Alpine in Dieppe sell twice as many cars in the UK as Ineos at the moment. Their factory has 3.8ha of covered buildings and has 362 employees. Ineos have 82ha of covered buildings and has 1000-1500 employees.
Its also worth noting that even when you add in the UK Smart car sales it only matches or beats Alpine a few times. Yes, these are only the UK figures, yes they are selling Smart and Ineos in other markets. But your question of can a company (of this size) exist selling only 50 cars a month or less in the UK? Not if the production is based on scale that the factory is designed for.

I gave an example earlier on of the primer bath, which is cost effective to have a 100m pool of primer evaporating if you are pouring in cars and fresh primer at a set rate, that calculation was built around Mercedes building 20,000 SUVs there a year. This factory was designed specifically for just in time, so the delivery of components like the dash pods of a Smart matched the target production output of that Bosch plant and the truck flow rate per day, no more, no less. After 2004 Smart went into debt in Hambach and that is why it was changed by Mercedes as the plant wasn't building over the magical 10,000/year target. That is why Mercedes spent 4bln on changing it to build SUVs as there.
You heard 35,000 cars a year estimate from Ineos 3 years ago and 15,000 orders which all sound good as long as they have that.
When you have sales go to single didgets a week in less than a year, all your suppliers are based on you buying x amount per month for years, not 90 every 3 months and less after that as they themselves are not built to do small batch work either.
Like any business, you need to sell a certain amount to break even when setting up and Ineos spent 50 million of the 100 million on the factory as part of the agreement when they bought it. Not quite Bugatti Veyron loss per car. But that doesn't factor in the Grenadier or the other stuff around it either.

Looks like they had about 9k orders and pre-orders for 2024 in the US - I’d be amazed if it continues at a higher rate than that.

Seems the 23.5MY is a sweet spott. Initial build and software issues gone but they don't get the 24MY nannying speed alerts and lane keeping rubbish.
