High mileage new cars - engine lifespan?

Thanks
OP - Reliability and Land Rover are opposites
I wouldn't buy a new one let alone an old one
If you don't know that much then frankly you shouldn't be buying your own car, much less a high mileage one
Petrol japanese cars are reliable - Lexus GS300 or 400 will do 300k with fewer issues than a Land Rover will cover 50k

The car the OP showed is an 8 year old car with a bit above average miles (It's done 16k miles per year).
That's not what I'd consider a high-mileage car. It is quite old though, and of a type with a reputation for not being particularly reliable.
Ultimately though the question is whether an 8 year old one of these with 130k miles or an 12 year old one with 80k miles for the same money is the better bet. That particular question is a bit academic because there aren't any Discovery Sports that old, though it would be easily be possible to spend a similar sum on a 12 year old Evoque or Freelander 2.
Personally though, if I wanted to take a £10k punt on a high mileage car, it would be on a 3 year old Astra or Focus rather than anything older or more "prestige". A car like that which has clocked up 100k miles in 3 years will have most likely had a fairly easy life transporting a junior sales rep up and down the motorway, and is far more likely to be good for quite a while yet than any 8 year old car.

Range Rover ? No way.
Bradford?
You can add on trade ad, mobile phone number only and a trader name of “M-A”.Bradford?
If there was a competition for the most likely AT advert to result in financial pain it’d be a toss up between this and a Maserati Bi-turbo that’s just been recovered from a lake.
Bit of thread resurrection here…
I needed to replace my Alfa 159 - lovely car but getting hard to keep looking nice, bubbling rust etc.
A mate of mine is in the motor trade and said I could use his trade auction account.
We had the Alfa estate as a third car as our normal cars are Merc two seaters, so I figured a C class estate around the 3-3.5k price mark. This would get a high mileage 10 plate or so.
However perusing the auctions I came upon a 12 plate Merc W204, manual with a rather high 197k on it, however it was the facelift and looked pretty nice. So I thought I’d take a punt, after all I could weigh it in for half that. No manuals/ history, it said, plus a couple of scratches. Condition report was all good though (stuff working, tyres etc)
Fast forward to last Friday and I won said car for £900
So yesterday I got the train to Edinburgh and went to collect it. I had a rucksack full of tools, jump pack etc which I didn’t need. And it’s bloody brilliant! Two keys (in perfect nick). Slick gearbox, nice clutch. In the car was the manual pack and a two inch thick pile of service invoices, bills etc. The AC works! Everything works. Engine pulls like a train, no smoke. Goodyear tyres, at least 5mm all round. Electric seats and power tailgate. 11 months MOT.
Interior is in a great state - no collapsed bolster, no rips, no appreciable wear on steering wheel or gear knob, gaiter all good.
Bad bits? There’s a blow on the middle section of the exhaust (noted on the MOT advisories). Booked in next week at a “proper” exhaust place who will repair/fabricate. And there are some very rattly ARB links/bushes that I’ll be doing at the weekend along with rear discs and pads.
It needs a good clean inside and it’ll look great, and the body has not got one single ding in it, and the two scratches on the assessment aren’t - they’re paint off something else and came off with my thumbnail. Astonishingly few stone chips too.
From the rafts of paperwork the car seems to have been owned by a guy who travelled backwards and forwards between Suffolk and Ayrshire, and he’s kept it well maintained.
£900 - well worth the punt. I’m rather impressed.
It’s on the first of about four washes before it gets clay barred etc, wheels painted.

Someone cocked up there - if they’d listed it with FSH it’d have gone for way more, even with the high miles. Looks very tidy!
I’m just scrubbing away getting the interior cleaned - looking a million times better already. The outside and bright work will be sparkling after this weekend. Hopefully no clunky suspension either. This is the pile of invoices etc …

Looks great .. we had one similar age .. check for rust on rear subframe .. ours rotted out and killed it
Not sure if that was a W203 issue only - but there was a recall and they were fitting new ones FOCDog Star said:

Nice! Which model is it? C220 CDI? I needed to replace my Alfa 159 - lovely car but getting hard to keep looking nice, bubbling rust etc.

Engine or car?? see comments its a Range Rover lol, plenty of proof cheap ones are even more expensive than expensive ones to run!
I had a succession of company cars that I've run from new to six figure mileages for up to four years old largely without issue. Once I started buying my own and doing those mileages I went high and carried them on.
A6 Estate did about 190K miles when sold, Jaguar S type 4.2 about 90K when bought, still going now ten years later and the only failures were valley pipes, radiator and a suspension strut. BMW F11, bought at 90K miles , ran to 200K miles, Jaguar XJ8 150K miles ran for a year made £40 at sale, Jaguar XKR (98) ran to 150 k miles rust was the worst issue, recent purchases a G31 BMW 90K miles and an XK R 150K miles so far.
Buy on condition not miles. Suspension bushes can die with age not just miles

I hope others have moved you in from this car but I’d add two things.
Nowadays, I’d be more worried about software and electronics than engines. They really do date quickly and control so much.
And if high mileage longevity is your thing, a British SUV should ideally not be your starting point.
If your priority really is longevity (and not image) I’d be looking at something Japanese.
And if you need 4WD for farms or towing (doesn’t sound like it) then a Japanese 4x4 will go so much further. It’ll cost you more up front, but there’s a reason for that…….
I need a tow vehicle and am considering a Land Cruiser or a HiLux. For that specific use case, I’m not looking at anything more fashionable.
