I am still trying to get my head around having the wrong reg number on the policy but the correct car.

I mean, everything is on a database but even then, if you are calling them or doing it online then being one digit out could possibly just come back as invalid., or the vehicle is confirmed.

The OP said this episode was 25 years ago. Things were different back then - it was all fields around here for a start.
Yup.

And I discovered it when I walked into an actual physical post office with actual physical paper Reg/Insurance/MOT. And you tell that to kids today, and they won't believe you.

The guy behind the counter couldn't issue me with an actual physical paper tax disc because the reg was wrong. Of course cars were made of wattle and daub back then and pot holes had only just been invented.

Insurers operate on the basis of Uberrimae Fidei or 'utmost good faith'. So, if in doubt, tell them.

They are, but Part 5 of the 2015 Act has now removed avoidance of contract as a remedy for breach of utmost good faith, and abolished any parts of legislation prescribing this as a remedy.
