The rear overhang will be a consequence of having to fit the folding metal roof in the boot.
Every SL has a large rear overhang.
Thats why I love the SLK 55, compact no long overhangs, a little brute (if you pump it up a bit more :-))

Mercedes Benz SL400 & AMG SLC 43.

Luxury Roadsters with plenty of poke: 370 brake / 500 NM biturbo 3 litre V6 in a pretty 1.600 kgs shell.
I'd opt for the slightly bigger SL. Almost twice the price tag and without the AMG's drama antics.

Mercedes SL400. I love the V6 and not so much the straight that followed...

Are those servicing costs correct or even close to correct?

My E350 was quoted at £500 for a minor service and oil change, at MB in Dundee and a major would easily surpass £1000.

Anyone with real world experience?

MB main dealer - there's your issue. I've given up with them - prices are absolutely bonkers.

Before the launch of the current SL this was the best looking SL generation after the R107. You forget to mention the Lexus SC430 as a possible alternative, not as sporting but certainly an attractive, comfortable and reliable option.

Exactly our experience…before we had a child!

Amazing how much luggage and wine you can fit in too, if you’re judicious with your packing…
Exactly late last summer we spent a week pootling about France just north of Paris. Didn't need to pack light and came back with 50 bottles of wine in the boot. We didn't even need to use the space behind the seats - we weren't even trying!

This is absolutely the perfect car for that kind of holiday.
