I've just had an email from Shell telling me this fuel is now available. I think it's the latest version of V-Power. Has anyone tried it yet?

It was only released today, but I started a thread about it a couple of weeks ago and it got deleted because apparently the information was under embargo. hehe Doubt it's much different, but it's 100RON.

100RON?!? Wow! I seem to recall BP used to/still sell a 102RON and it was about £2.50 a litre.

I've just had an email too. Only problem with that is it has my number of shell points and therefore the amount of money I've spent with them...

Sounds interesting - hopefully a new formula and not rebranding. I thought the trend is to tweak up octane with more Ethanol biofuel which seems to reduce MPG. BP really need to get back in the game, Ultimate is still 97 RON.

Whilst not involved directly, i do buy a lot of phalates and catalysts that are used in petrol production. I'm being told that now mercury is banned and a few more phalates are off the market this is Shell's workaround. Increase in RON is suspected to be linked to an increase in ethanol content.

  • disclaimer - i'm not a fuel expert, but I purchase a lot of oil based products for plastics. The post above is based on what contacts at suppliers have told me.

Are you sure its 100ron, i've been told that.
But Shell have not confirmed it, I have a suspicion that this "New" fuel is the same with a mere change to the cleaning agents and nothing really to the base stock itself.

You would expect if the RON had increased they would be publicising it. The main points on their website:

Protecting Cylinder Walls – Our Friction Modification Technology is designed to instantly reduce friction between the piston assembly and cylinder wall by coating them with a protective film.

Cleaner Intake Valves and Fuel Injectors – Designed to prevent and clean up deposits that can affect performance. Shell V-Power Nitro+ contains special additives to help stop performance-robbing deposits from building up around the intake valves and fuel injectors.

In comparison to our previous Shell V-Power Unleaded, we have rebalanced the formulation to contain 25% more Friction Modification Technology (FMT). This technology has been tested with Ferrari as part of our long standing technical partnership, and is designed to instantly reduce friction in critical engine areas and thereby help the engine to deliver more power to the wheels.

I can just imagine the quality conversations going on in car parks at 1am, "My Corsa runs Nitro+, dropped my 0-60 to 3.5 seconds..."

"In comparison to our previous Shell V-Power Unleaded" implies its replacing current V Power rather than a new alternative to run along side it

Same price as the old V-Power

It's still 99RON

It's been in our tanks for a while, apparently...

Ok, I've only got 1191 but I've only been collecting them since December when my local garage converted to Shell.

Does anyone know what the ethanol content is?
