Dirk Schoysman in a GT-R: Time For Tea?

The Ringmeister at the 'ring going very, very quickly indeed

Here's a video that should have been published a lot sooner. It comes from Duke's Nissan GT-R DVD and features Dirk Schoysman, the Nurburgring (where else?) and a very special R34.

That the narrator reminds us the speedo is in mph and not kph perhaps tells you all; it's a ludicrously fast Skyline. And with Schoysman driving, it remains absurdly rapid around the whole circuit. And this is despite commentating on the whole lap like he was watching the footage on TV. He chastises other tourist drivers for not seeing him and calmly guides the Skyline round. But leaves it in third for some slower corners because he's not going for a lap time. Obviously. Drizzle makes little difference to his approach, only making the slip angles bigger.

A lap like this would look good on Gran Turismo. That it was real and not even at maximum commitment is just phenomenal. Good on you Dirk, and keep delving in the archives Duke!

Enjoy the vid.

Shins R34 was an absolute beast. Remember trying to follow it down the B660 one day when I had my R33 GTR and he just buggered off! biggrin

It was indeed a beast, pretty much my ideal R34 smile

There's a growing assumption that professional drivers have to be ego driven, arrogant mono-maniacs to be any good. It's refreshing to see one who is brilliant behind the wheel as well as being unassuming, pleasant and communicative. He wasn't even wearing sunglasses.

Good lord that is fast! I have never been to the ring before but this video has added another surge of commitment for me to pull my finger out and get going.

Have any of you Skyline guys been there? What is it like in a car like that?

I drove up to Gaydon to a GTR meet just to see Shins R34, it was such an awesome car. Found a couple of photos I had of it. The blue Prospec one was pretty nice too.

Am I right in saying Mines did the work on that car?

Great video.

I don't understand his comment that the car is a bit too stiff for the Nordschleife and would be better suited to a smooth track like the GP circuit. From what I've learned on PH, the Nordschleife is as smooth as any track in the world and not at all bumpy.

I'm pretty sure it had a Mine's engine and lots of other Mine's parts on it, but it was also a demo car for Prospec Motorsports when Shin brought it over from Japan.

Me too, I enjoyed that DVD...still not managed to get hold of a GTR yet though!
