So, we've made a mistake. I let the OH talk me into selling the Disco and buying a MINI. Big mistake. It isn't a suitable family car, so we are looking at options. It had less than 500 miles on it, and being so early in the agreement, in slight negative equity (not a problem to clear, just an extra ball-ache).

I guess with both dealers being Stratstone they might be able to help us out a bit (stop laughing at the back!).

Whoops! A Bini isn't a suitable car, you should have stopped there!

Prejudices confirmed when I had one on hire... no room anywhere and the boot is an absolute joke. That was on the previous model as well, the latest one appears to make all of that even worse after seeing one on static display!

I think the only way is to take it back to the dealer and take the hit. I'm not leasing my but due to what I feel is going to be a mechanical time bomb and a lack of approved used cars according to them, it's what I'll be doing with my 2-year-old one after Christmas.

Ouch.

They'll be more than happy to help...

Easiest option is just to choose a new car and part-ex against it, they'll be more than happy to take your trade in.

Least costly option would be to try and sell privately, although you'll really be looking for someone who has nearly-new car money, and wants the spec you've chosen, but who doesn't want the reliability of buying it at a dealer and wants to save a little bit...

Can you afford to keep it as a second car...at least get some running out of it.

There no problem here, other that your acceptance of the massive raping of your wallet. But as has been said above, the dealer will be happy to "deal".

I'm in the same situation as you sir. Traded in my previous car for a new Abarth 595 competizione - I'm too tall to be truly comfortable in it. I've had a couple of really good offers from a couple of dealers but have yet to take the plunge.

Put an advert up on ebay offering to swap mini for a discovery / range rover and be prepared to travel.

OP why has it taken you 2 months to realise its not really a family car?

Is there more to the change of heart than that realisation? ie - girly etc?

Several reasons, it was bought in the middle of a house move, I use the Jag more than the mini, and the OH's insistence it was fine, until it wasn't. She's now ordered a 5 door mini, but I still think it will be too compromised. I think I've managed to convince her back into another Disco. When I've had to drive it the headroom is tight, but it's not a bad car, just not the fantastic allrounder the Discovery was (and is).

It's effectively keyless. Leave it in the middle of Birmingham/London it will disappear within seconds. hehe

Or trade and take the hit. My friend got a disco manual, realised his other half could not cope with it and the electronic handbrake on hill starts, so swapped it for a auto. Same colour, same spec, abit younger and £7k more frown

"Oh I've got four cars" blah blah

"Just ordered a five door Mini" blah blah

Yeah well you're clearly short of a few quid and it's a major headache for you ..... Not!
Seriously have you nothing better to do than advertise your status?

Who set fire to your tampon?

OP isn't asking for sympathy, merely advice on how best to minimise an unfortunate error. If it were me, I'd take the hit and pick something else up next month - if you're not too picky I reckon you'd be able to do a pretty good 'cost to change' thing. When is Stratstone's end of year? I'm planning on waiting to pick my next toy up until about eight days before the dealer's end of year so I can hammer out as strong a deal as possible.
