TVR taking deposits for its new car
Prospective customers can secure a car from July 7
So if you're interested in the next TVR, due in 2017, the company will begin to accept £5,000 deposits from July 7. Detailed specifications are "to be established at a later stage." There's a further incentive for TVR fans though, with a discount for TVR Car Club members.
During July all TVR CC members who have been members for at least six months will be given the opportunity to place a £2,500 deposit. This year marks the club's 50th anniversary and the gesture is designed as a thank you for the "established individuals" who have "demonstrated continued enthusiasm and loyalty to the brand." Should be a few of them on here! TVR will also make a financial donation to the club for every deposit from a TVR CC member.
TVR Chairman Les Edgar says it's important "to reward those people who have been such enthusiastic ambassadors" for TVR. As well as the reduced deposit members are promised some of the early production units.
The next challenge faced - or at least one of them - is establishing a UK network of TVR Heritage and TVR Performance partners. TVR says most of the early cars will be delivered direct from the factory. More news when we have it!
There is a bit of a difference in placing a deposit on a car, and looking to fund the venture.
It does kind of smack of the latter, but I do wish them well though.
At this stage though, I'm oot.
I am assuming that those who do hand over the £5k deposit will at least be shown a picture, along with being told a little more of what they're buying into beforehand?
Like any sane man I'd like to see something more tangible for my money before I would commit. I'm also expecting a mail shot, having registered an interest on their web site, have I missed that or am I expecting too much.
Also a bit of clarity on what the £2.5k discount to current TVRCC members is, I am a lapsed member after many years subscription and if I thought I ended up paying more than a current member then out of principle I would not proceed. Seems a bit devisive to me, putting current club members ahead of long established owners who do not 'get' the club. I don't think I am alone in that?
You'd have to be a very committed fan to do that - fair play if anyone reading this is one of them.
If it was an established product being made in limited number like a Porsche GT3 / GT4, then blind faith is acceptable.
But this new TVR is neither established or limited. It first needs to prove itself, especially if the higher price point of closer to £100k than £50k becomes a reality.
I am assuming that those who do put the £5k deposit will at least be shown a picture, along with being told a little more of what they're buying into?
And the engine has been confirmed as a Cosworth-fettled V8.
