I've actually got to the stage where I am genuinely bored with the daily cars I have. I don't really look forward to driving any of them.

I really want something that is brilliant to drive - a genuine grin-inducing daily, where the commute up and down the A2 won't seem like a drive into the abyss of middle age and death. hehe

I tried a Fiat 500 595 - didn't like it. I also tried a new MX-5 - didn't really like that either. I thought I might try a Fiat 124 but the dealers are so awful they think they are trying to sell you a Veyron.

I want something properly different, but still comfortable, that is either beautiful to look at, or interesting to drive. Doesn't have to be mega-quick, or mega-frugal, but I just want it to be interesting.

Even if it's odd to drive, I don't really mind. Just something where I get out of it after 90 minutes and don't feel like i've been driving an appliance.

interesting car history.
i guess power is important to you?
also handling?

Problem with getting too racy for street use is that you can't really exploit the car, keep your licence etc. race car for the circuit.
so how about a contrast? 2CV? Morgan?

Mazda RX8

I've just bought a 231 version to use as my daily and it fulfils all the criteria you've listed above.

As a daily? a 2CV? a Morgan? Come on chap, fine cars they may be, but as a daily?

Maybe it's not the cars that are boring, but the journey. Is there an alternative route that's less mind numbing?

Problem is you are looking at doing a boring journey everyday, no car will change that.
All you can do is buy something that's nice to be in, I would get something like an Aston Vantage or DB9, comfy, beautiful inside and out, feels special, sounds great - gets positive response from everyone and will brighten your day.

But on a crap journey, all it can do is help alleviate some of the issues or obscure them, it won't remove them. Plus any car used daily will seem "normal" and less special over time.

TVR Tuscan - looks good, goes well, and always trying to kill you so never a dull moment.

I tease a little... But really, the 2CV ticks the requirements you gave. I used to drive mine all the time in summer, even on business. Reliable, comfy, quirky and involving to drive.
The Elise also works from what you said, so a few more requirements from you are needed.

How about an XJS then. Surprisingly adept handling when sorted and steered well, and obviously a wafter when required. few modern cars will suit from what you've said.

Id suggest getting familiar with the broad and bizarre world of Japanese Imports. There are some absolute peaches out there that don't have the popularity of some particular models. Plenty of things like big fast comfy barges that can still handle a B-Road and many of them have the 'what' factor for the great unwashed.

You need an American land yacht lazy V8, comfortable seats and fun-to-drive. The way these things behave is the perfect antidote for modern cars.

You need a change your route to make your journey better, it seems the journey not the car.

Even with this in mind, turbo hatchback of some kind? Most are a good laugh and quite involving, also cheap
