YouTube Speeders Condemned
Police in Scotland vow to catch speeders who film their antics
Police are to crack down on the increasing number of drivers who film themselves breaking the speed limit, it has been reported.
The number of young people who use mobile phones to video themselves driving recklessly is on the increase and officers have warned they will be prosecuted if caught.
The footage often ends up on video-sharing sites such as YouTube.
The craze is growing all over the country and police have warned young drivers are risking their lives to make the films.
Earlier in January we bought you news of a motorcyclist apparently doing 189mph on a public road.
It is a particular problem in Fife and a film of a driver doing over 100mph on a rural road is now being examined by officers.
The footage shows the man’s face and officers are now attempting to trace him.
Head of roads policing, Ch Insp Alex Duncan, told the BBC Scotland news website: ‘Driving is a serious responsibility and you've got to have all parts of your brain thinking about driving to make sure that you're safe and other road users are safe.
‘If you're doing that [filming], you're not concentrating on the road and that, at the end of the day, is what's going to keep you safe.’
I suppose that it shows that it is safe to drive at those speeds though!
Showing his face on the video was perhaps the stupidist thing he has ever done.
I don't think I would trust myself at those speeds and I think I'm a hell of alot better than most! Don't get me wrong I think the speed limit is a little too low for many but you look at some of the numb nuts on the road and you'll doubt their capabilties walking in a straight line never mind doing 100mph plus on 2 or four wheels!

Doing 100mph in a 1.2 corsa isnt big, clever or safe regardless of driver experience or capabilities.
Doing 100+ mph on/in a vehicle designed to do so is safe (in my opinion) however there is a time and place for doing so.
Any day out on my bike will involve frequently being over the 100mph mark because it takes a couple of seconds, and the occasional I will top out in top gear. It never at any point feels dangerous, as I wouldnt be doing it if it did.
If you think its dangerous and feel uncomfortable at those speeds, then dont do it. Plenty of people do feel confortable doing it, I bet there isnt a true pistonhead on this website who hasnt been over 100mph on a public road.
is over 35yo old? can i know vid myself with no come back?
(i like the way they always say its the young ppl, as im my experience its the older ppl that actually use a car to go from A-B that are the worst drivers)
I mean the guy on the Youtube link, could say, this was filmed using a specially moidifed speedo, that I threw away. Oh and we speeded up the film to make it look real.
Police should stop taking every opportunity to ridicule themsleves and get on with the business of making our lives better and safer.
If there's a speight of bikers killing people because they are riding at 190mph, then clamp down on them.
In the meantime concentrate on reducing knife crime - that is actually costing lives, right now.
Having just driven back from the Isle of Skye, I wouldn’t say that this is particularly serious. On one section of "rural road" up there I didn’t see another car for about 15 miles. Obviously though, in the interests of safety, I stuck to a steady 60mph on the immaculately surfaced, empty, sweeping mountain road .
You also need to question whether these people who post clips of themselves breaking the law on public websites have brains in the first place.
This story was brought up by one of the local red top papers on the weekend after four barry boys terminated their gene pool against a rather unforgiving tree on the road into Kirkcaldy.
It was a repeat of three in a mondy on the standing stane road a few weeks before and a month before that four in fiesty on the A92 at Fruchie.
The BBC has highlighted the straight roads we have in Fife....I know only two and the scameras are there all day. Most are winding and very challenging narrow tarred over sheep droving trails. The upside is traffics light.
On a monday morning the countryside tends to be littered with barryboy misshaps on the CLUNY to Glenrothes road. Its not just a fife thing, Kids grow up playing playstation games where you crash and just press a button to start again.......or so the think
Filming your face doing a video is stupid....driving holding the phone is worse.
Those that drive recklessly are more likely to kill themselves doing so , natural selection in effect???
