I think we've underestimated the scope of the 'what zombie car' threads; but in this case the zombies don't look like this...

They look like this...

Yep. The zombies are those Brussels bureaucrats.

The Eurocrats are killing cars. In the name of saving the planet they are driving car manufacturers to deliver ever more inventive ways of improving vehicle economy and emissions, but at what cost?

Do we really want electronic handbrakes, electric power steering, stop/start systems and other gubbins, all of which will only ever end up doing one thing: being temperamental and failing. Do we need automatic assistance for switching on our headlights or windscreen wipers?

This thread can save the day. We need to identify those cars which, if we fill our garage cupboards with consumable spares, we can run until they ban fossil fuels themselves. I can only see life for people who keep their cars 'up to date' becoming ever more frustrating and costly.

What are they cars to buy now and drive for the next 25 years? Budget up to ten grand.

W124 and W126's.

There is plenty of fuel left in these times right?
yes The W126 is holding particular appeal.

Need a 4x4 too though, right? (just in the case the 'other' zombies turn up too?)
