I used to put a little sign in the car window to indicate the absence of anything worth stealing in the car. Printed A5 size and laminated, it was a quick matter to pop it under the rubber seal every time I left the car.

Having found the car window smashed at 04.00 and its contents, or lack of, rifled through, I've decided to start using the signs again, but the wording is proving to be a bit of a dilemma, so guidance would be appreciated.

Do I go for something simple, such as...?

No Sat nav, No cash, No gubbins, Nothing to steal

Do I bluff it...?

Dangerous substances within, risk of death

Do I go for the sympathy vote..?

Please leave my possessions alone, I'm old and tired

Or something like...

fk OFF, YOU THIEVING SCUMBAG. A CURSE ON YOU. MAY YOUR ANUS BE INFESTED WITH A THOUSAND PUS-RIDDEN ANTS FOR ALL ETERNITY. AND LEARN HOW TO BREAK A WINDOW WITHOUT fkING UP THE FRAME, YOU RETARDED MONKEY'S ahole

Or something else...?

I have a very particular set of skills.
If you leave now I'll forget this ever happened, but if you smash my window I will find you and I will kill you.

I'll just pass that by my community Bobby...

To be honest I don't think it will matter what you put. The bds will try it anyway. Where was the car parked? Do you know why they picked on yours?
At the end of my drive. They might have spotted my Tomtom mount, stuck to the dash.

Anyhow, how are they supposed to read a sign at 4am?
It's under a dusk to dawn floodlight.

The trouble with that is that someone with a satnav, cash and gubbins might put that sign in as a bluff.
It did pass through my mind, but it would take a 'tard to say that then leave stuff in the car. Question is...is chummy too thick to understand that?

Leave the doors unlocked if there really is nothing worth stealing.
I used to do that with a SORNd car, parked on my lawn, right in front of the house door.

Some scrote walked off with the rear leather seat cushion...irked

Have laminated glass put in your side windows. Much harder to get through and makes less mess if someone does try and chuck a brick through it.
Do they make laminated side glass?

Even so, the toughened one retails at £220 for one, so that would be a bit costly, and more than a little difficult to get through if you roll the car.

I don’t think it was indiscriminate or opportunistic. I think they were targeting you specifically.

I think they were looking for the sign.

You need some car security window film. Look online for examples like this:

As you can see, whilst they prevent any entry into the vehicle, they can still be pushed out from the inside should you need to escape in a crash
That's worth looking into, thanks Matt. Don't fancy driving to Malaysia for it though...hehe

Only problem I can see is a ham fisted thief. Mine appears to have put a bar in the window frame, thus damaging the frame. Said tosser would no doubt do more damage trying to force this stuff.

Ho hum...

That's the best solution to broken glass and a smashed in door. (They usually try the door first )
As mentioned earlier, I did that with a car on my lawn, but some scrote stole the rear leather seat cushion.

My car's on the road at the moment and it's steep. If it's unlocked and someone gets inside and releases the handbrake, the insurer won't cough up when my car rolls into something.

Does your car not have an alarm at all?
Yes, it's a Volvo and you can't hear the alarm if a gnat's farting nearby.
