Cars that are hard to own because of theft?

I just read the cosworth stories thread and I remember in the 90's the tales that an escort cosworth was almost impossible to insure / own because of the ridiculously high theft rates and the thieves would do anything to get them.

Is there a modern equivalent?

From my experience of where I live car crime is the biggest reported crime because it is a good postcode, there is an abundance of nice cars (I'm assuming), but there you go!
