Hello all
Wasn't sure where to post this.. Cos I'm a girl!... but hey.. Figures you petrol heads out there would be able to help me!

Just bought a Dax Cobra. From Dublin on Irish plates.
Have registered it with HMRC (no import tax payable as car was originally registered in UK on UK plates)
Now waiting for the forms to arrive from DVLA to re-register it on UK plates.
They advised that we MAY be able to revert back to its original UK registration number...

My question is... We REALLY REALLY want to keep the black/silver number plates and NOT get new Yellow/Black ones... to keep it looking vintage...
Is this possible?
Do we specify this with DVLA or simply at the garage when the plates get made up?

Thanks Chaps!
thats really great news!!!!
sorry for getting anyone hot under the collar!

Its a nickname that stuck years ago with work... so I use that on most forums!!!

OK.. next question for you experts then!
If we decide to get a personalised numberplate... via the normal selection online.. can that be made up at a garage in black/silver too?
Im guessing yes.. since the donor car is 1970

Never had a private plate before.. How does that all work??? What are the steps and red tape hurdles I have to jump?
thanks!

OK.. so I can get a numberplate starting with A then

So I need to try to find one that reads something like

ACO 88A

(trying to get it to read A Cobra) not quite working is it!!!

Can I buy the plate from anywhere.. or will places like "http://www.plates4less.co.uk" not sell the vintage formats???

THANKS GUYS!

aaah the 'extras' in the background aren't mine... sadly...
But the Cobra beauty is now number 5 in our family of vehicles.... none quite as exciting as her though!
We bought her from Dublin... and the prev owner is a bit of a petrol head too... and a collector of beauties.

Cant believe we own her now!!!!! She is a 'surprise' for my Old Dad when he comes to stay next month! His hire car for the duration!!!!

where is best to look for a private numberplate???
Are there specialists for the format I have to stick to? (e.g. letter/letter/letter number/number/letter)

Or can I go anywhere???
not done this before!!!

She is registered as a Rover (the Donor car) in 1970... and I do have the original numberplate written down.. so expect DVLA can revert us to that
I would like a private plate for her though.. but still researching how that all works.

Seems I specifically need what is called a SUFFIX plate...
Not sure they are very widely available!!!

Anyhow.. its not a race to the grave... she will receive lots of enhancements and improvements
