Its time for new tyres on the car. My normal reaction is to go and park the car at the local indy car fitting place and just pay the bill when I pick it up. Its about £90 a corner for midish range tyres (Kumho were the last). He's a good bloke and I feel a little like I'm cheating on him by even considering getting new shoes elsewhere. But if it's cheap enough for the same elsewhere, then this month I'll feel dirty and let someone else soap my rims. Its January, we're not cash rich right now, enough said.

So, obviously I should start by having a look at mytyres or blackcircles (yet to do) but I am also aware that January is the season of the sale so maybe the more mainstream outfits may be worth a look?. There is also the whole quidco malarky as well that I know little about.

Does anyone have any sure fire winners for cheap tyres before I spend an interesting evening on t'internet?

I don't want nipnip slidemasters (been there), part worns (done that) or to have to fit them myself (got the (grubby) teashirt), but apart from that am fairly broadminded about it.

Size is 205/65 R15 if anyone cares.

Thanks.

I bought a pair of tyres for the xjr online. I chose an local place from their list of fitters and went along.the chap said ,"next time,"search online and then give me a call,we should be able to beat or at least match them." He was quite happy with that.
Maybe have a chat with your local man,and hopefully it is a win for both of you

£90! For that brand and sized tyre, he's the one robbing you.
He runs an extremely good indy outfit. It is immaculately clean and tidy, always busy, friendly, helpful, open, honest etc. The guy that runs is as straight down the line as they come - he would make your average sgt major look a bit woolly and flakey. I would not want to ask him to match online prices as refusal often offends, he clearly is not one for joining the race to the bottom, doesn't seem to need to and, well, just, no - not in this case. (And I am not shy about asking or suggesting such things usually!)

£64 a corner (fitted) with Black Circles for Kumho KH17s. That's probably about as cheap as you'll find given that you'll probably pay £10 a corner to have them fitted if you get them mail order.
? Can't see that - it's a shade over £70 each on my computer

Oponeo came out best for me last time - Camskill couldn't touch their pricing for N rated tyes smile
openeo are in second place with nexen blue ecos for 46 quid each, but allow 12 quid for hassle, fitting and disposal and then

I used Tyre Giant recently as they now have a link with PH and offer members a good discount. The tyres ended up being fitted by my local indie as part of the price.

Have a read.

these lot win with michelin energy savers for 73 each fitted, so still cheaper than roytheboy, about the same as a blackcircles kumho and with the nicetohave A rating for wet grip. Hopefully a bit of a longer lasting tyre as well.

Thanks folks: Genuinely hate this sort of thing and assumed this would be the most boring thread so far in 2015 and get no help, so very nice to be proved wrong. Big group internet hug all round and all that. smile

Go and see a man down the pub. I'm sure for a few readies he will furnish you with 4 tyres possibly and possibly a wheel upgrade to.
I think that has happened in the past. Car has 6 wheels with it, not the more usual 5. Despite being a skinflint, not something I would condone. hehe

If you PM the PH member dopamine who works for Tyre Giant he will get you a further discount from the normal online price. Or just put a price request in on the thread.

As I said mine were fitted by my local tyre place who I don't have any special relationship with but have used in the past. Whilst I was waiting I asked the manager if he could of matched the price, after a bit of ringing around he admitted he could only buy them in at what I had paid.
I've asked!

When I ordered them the url and website had pistonheads all over it, so I was assuming that discount had already been applied (they were 20 quid a corner cheaper than black circles), but here's hoping!

Thanks very much again.

If you can get them fitted at £10 a corner it's a winner-

National Tyres did 4 for me recently for £40.
It would win, but I've already spent too much time on this for my liking and cannot be bothered with a ringround, especially as it's well into the realms of ever decreasing returns.

[quote=Who me ?]Something not known is that tyre places charge you for disposing of old tyres. It can be as much as £5 per corner. I don't know/want to know, but SIL has a mate who works in our local recycling place ( posh name for tip), who can get rid of old tyres.I get price for tyre(s) at tyre shop, then ask how much off for me to remove the carcases. Tyre places are only too happy to oblige.
I did know this - has been the case for a good few years. A motorbike shop I worked for regularly used to send me out into the yard to cut up old bike tyres into segments to fit them into the normal council dumpster incognito rather than pay the disposal fees. This must have been 10 years ago and I'm sure the cost has only gone one way. No one else (scrap meal man, local tip, farmers etc) would have them.
