Audi RS6 (C6): PH Carpool
Uber rare RS6 saloon tickles the fancy of this PHer, especially with over 750hp...

Didn't break the dyno. This time
"When first released I remember seeing all the adverts and brochures for the RS6 but didn't see any on the road. Then one sunny day in Bracknell a Sepang Blue RS6 Avant went past me and it looked like it meant business. I loved the look on the road, and then the saloon was released... I had never actually seen one until I travelled to buy this one! So it's super rare and I think it looks meaner in saloon form, kind of squatted and muscular with sharper edges than the curvy Avant; an RS6 went very quickly from 'would like to have' to 'must have'!
"So at the grand old age of 27 I have one child and another due so I needed practicality that the Missus would like as well. I tried to say the Evo was but she hated it, especially being woken at 6am every morning when I left for work! So I needed something practical, reliable but also something that was fast enough to not have me yearning for the straight line speed of a GT-R.
"I found this lovely 2010 saloon with 29K miles in the discreet Daytona Grey. Oh, and the 730hp MTM upgrade also swayed me..."
What I wish I'd known:
"I did plenty of research on these beasts and knew to look out for the infamous oil leak and clicking wheel bearings. This one didn't have either issue and had a full Audi service history.
"The fuel economy is exactly what I expected. For the three and half hour drive home from Leeds to Surrey I averaged 19.6mpg, since then its been more like 12-15 but my family Nissan Qashqai achieves nearly 55mpg so averaged out across the two with the Man Maths calculator I'm doing well! Also road tax at 500 combined with the Nissan's 30 makes it totally acceptable...
Saloon preferred to Avant for Andy
The way this thing explodes in a straight line! It's laugh out loud fast, even with four people and a boot full of goodies. Yes, it doesn't handle like an Evo but then when an Evo is running out of puff the big Audi is just getting into its stride. And how often can you attack roundabouts like Colin McRae these days, they are mostly riddled with traffic lights or potholes anyway.
I can drive it to work meetings and turn up in something that is understated but gets a few nods of appreciation too. It also gets the seal of approval from Mrs Warren as it's a safe, quiet and comfortable family car. Win win!
Things I hate:
"Roads are too busy to be able to go full attack mode for too long, but you do appreciate those times when you get a chance to. Recently I've started to hate the traction control though; in the wet that much power means the traction can be beaten in a controlled way but the TC is like an overprotective mother and cuts in very quickly. This linked to what can occasionally be a dimwitted gearbox sometimes spoils the fun. It's fairly seldom though and nothing more than a fly in the ointment.
"Finally, going out in a fellow forum member's RS6 which has been, lets just say, 'extensively modified' to what I believe is the perfect RS6 has made me want to change mine! He has solved all the issues above as well as adding more power and better looks...
Sensible, safe family Audi... with 750hp!
"I had an oil service at Crawley Audi when I first bought it which identified an oil leak. However that was traced to a leaking oil sensor and fixed under warranty, along with an headlight issue at the same time.
"I've bought a set of LED interior/exterior lights and some super bright headlight bulbs - what a difference this has made!
"I've made a trip to MRC to remove the precats, and have race filters added along a stage 2 map resulting in 763hp and over 800lb ft! Obviously it has made a huge difference, and even with quattro it struggles for traction sometimes.
"I've also had the chrome trim changed to the 'black optic' look as I prefer the look and keeps it a bit more understated."
Where I've been:
"Seeing as I commute on the train it sits largely unused most of the week, but it has done some long road trips to Essex, Birmingham and Southampton. It's also great at little short trips (mostly to the nearest petrol station).
"I've used it for a few long work journeys but the the 45p per mile allowance isn't really enough! Still, leaving Birmingham at 10pm mid-week this is the perfect car to get back to Surrey in record time!"
Economy? Well 19.6mpg is a high...
"I honestly dont know. I need practicality and comfort as a family car but I also love outrageous performance; a proper Jekyll and Hyde car is required and that's exactly what this car is. Natural progression would say the new RS6 but I'm not an estate kind of guy.
"The RS7 would be the logical choice as replacement, of course. I'm sure it's an amazing car but it's 'only' a V8; there is nothing like saying to people you have a 5.0-litre twin-turbo V10!"
