Alfa GTV6: You Know You Want To

Delicious example of the hallowed GTV6 commanding very strong money!

Not sold just on the pictures? OK, no problem. How about the noise? Still need some convincing? Right, a little more detail...

This is a UK Alfa GTV6 with very few miles (64,000), a recent suspension refresh, tons of history and even the standard radio. It is perhaps the finest GTV6 you'll see for a long time.

There's more to be excited about too. As originality is becoming ever more important for classic cars this GTV6 can boast an untouched interior, a complete toolkit plus the same engine and paint as when it left the factory. We're told it's an original and solid shell also. For a 30 year-old car it looks remarkably fresh.

Yes, 30 years old. The 80s are fondly remembered as the era of sharp handling, desirable rear-wheel drive Alfa saloons and coupes. The 75 V6 you would buy in spite of its looks but the GTV6 combined the dynamics with the style to create one of Alfa's most celebrated models. The 4C may have resurrected the RWD Alfa sports car but it's a very different proposition to the old stuff. More on that in due course...

The appeal of the GTV6, in addition to that already mentioned, was its practicality. A genuine four-seat coupe that your friends could come along and enjoy too. Or a family, if it must be justified to them... Then there was the motorsport success, with four consecutive European Touring Car Championships between 1982 and 1985. You really want it now, right?

Excellent, because it's up at £20,450. Wow. It's the only GTV6 on PH but searching round elsewhere throws up what look like very presentable and enjoyable cars for half that. They're probably not quite as pristine as this car though, and for some people its apparently impeccable condition will be sufficient. And at least if does end up in a collection nobody will ever tire of looking at it.

Why you should: One of Alfa's finest, cared for and pristine
Why you shouldn't: Pricey and, er, well...
